Robert Parker’s scores for 2009 Bordeaux need no introduction. The release of his scores two weeks ago threw the wine world into one heck of a frenzy. Parker awarded an unprecedented number of 100 point scores in the 2009 vintage – 19 to be exact – 18 red and 1 white. Serious wine collectors and buyers scooped up these wines in the blink of an eye. This vintage was chased like the 2005 & 2000 vintages were. Buyers came out of the woodwork to purchase what Parker labeled as “…unquestionably the greatest Bordeaux vintage I have ever tasted…” And with such a powerful statement from arguably the world’s most powerful critic, the 2009 Bordeaux campaign was beyond hot.

When we tasted many 2009 Bordeaux wines in bottle back in January at the New York UGC tasting, we thought these wines were sensational! After tasting these wines, we had a gut feeling Parker was going to give very high bottle scores to many of the 2009s. This vintage is beyond amazing. It offers superb freshness, power and elegance that provide for an early drinking window, yet at the same time, these wines will age gracefully for decades – that is, if you can resist drinking them. The approachability of the 2009s is one of the hallmarks of this vintage.

While we are almost sold out of most of the highly sought-after top tier wines, we still have lots of highly rated wines with incredible pedigree from the 2009 vintage available for purchase. When reviewing our inventory, one wine that caught our eyes was 2009 La Vieille Cure. After opening a bottle last night with a selection of imported cheeses, one thing is for sure, there is no hype about this vintage. It is not a myth and will probably go down as the most celebrated and legendary vintage in the past century. We know that we will be trading these wines for the rest of our careers in the wine business. From the top tier wines to the value priced wines under $100, quality exists in the 2009 vintage across the board.

The 2009 La Vieille Cure is a perfect example of the high quality value wine that you can find in this vintage. It retails for $32.99 per bottle and scored 93 points from Robert Parker. It’s comprised of 75% Merlot, 22% Cabernet Franc and 3% Cabernet Sauvignon. From Fronsac, west of St. Emilion, it should last for 10-15 years. A deep ruby color, it’s packed with dark fruit and a touch of spicebox. The best part about this wine is that it is approachable NOW. Most very young Bordeaux wines aren’t ready to drink until five-seven years after release. Not the case with the 2009 vintage. The early drinkability window is one of the signature traits of this vintage that is a dream come true for Bordeaux lovers.

This is the vintage of a lifetime! Bordeaux lover or not, you should experience what 2009 Bordeaux has to offer. Shop our entire selection of Bordeaux wines today before they disappear!
