Back by popular demand, we invite you to view Part III of the Wine Challenge Video Series with our own Dave Sokolin and leading wine critic, James Suckling. James recently visited our premises and challenged Dave to show him three white wines priced under $40 that we thought were deserving of 90 points or more. Just like Part I and II of the Wine Challenge, Dave impressed James with three outstanding wines!

Here at Sokolin, we pride ourselves not only on our vast inventory of fine back-vintage wines from top global regions, but also on our selection of wines that are inexpensive but still super-high quality. So we welcomed James’ challenge.

Here’s the rundown of the third challenge:

2009 Domaine de Roally Vire-Clesse – 93 points JS

“We were all shocked by this one - it was so good. We sold through it immediately and just did a video with James tasting the 2010 vintage and were equally as blown away by this up-and-coming star producer.” – Dave Sokolin

What James said: “It is a big surprise, delicious. It’s complex, full and beautiful with a long and intense finish.” – James Suckling


2010 Domaine Matrot Bourgogne Blanc – 90 points JS

“This is old school white Burgundy at the most reasonable price. Very delicious.” – Dave Sokolin

What James said: “Budget white Burgundy with outstanding quality.” – James Suckling


2009 Alain Chavy Puligny Montrachet – 93 points JS

“The lowest priced Puligny Montrachet tastes as good as the ones that cost 2-3 times as much, and James’ blind tasting score proves it!” – Dave Sokolin

What James said: “Wonderful Puligny. Aromas of minerals, stone and dried apples with hints of flowers.” – James Suckling
