About Summer
A Long Island, NY native, Summer has been working with wine for the past 10 years
from Colorado where she attended UC at Boulder, to Charleston South Carolina where
she took over her first wine list, to Blue Fin in Times Square NY as an assistant
Sommelier, to Tellers on Long Island as Wine Director/Sommelier.
Summer first fell
in love with Italy and wine 12 years ago during a semester abroad in Florence, where
a friend’s father poured her first sip of Brunello di Montalcino – she was never
the same. After her semester in Italy, Summer continued traveling back and forth
over the next few years to visit the country she couldn’t forget and all of its
incredible wines.
While working at Tellers on Long Island, she took the opportunity
to ask one of her favorite producers who was visiting the restaurant, to host her
for the harvest so she could learn more hands on about wine making. After the month
she intended to stay for was over, the estate asked her to stay to take care of
Public Relations, and a bit of the international marketing. Summer remained for
more than a year on the estate, and returned to NY the following fall where she
started working for Sokolin.
After two years with Sokolin on Long Island, Italy
was again calling to Summer and she decided to partner up with her dear friend and
colleague Amy Wadman to help create custom itineraries for wine and gourmet travel
all over Italy for diVino Tours (which Amy started over seven years ago).
Over the
course of the last year traveling with clients all over Italy, attending wine fairs,
and visiting producers like Antinori and Frescobaldi, to the ‘hidden gems’ all over
the country, Summer was inspired to create her newest project, Indie Wines.
You
can now find Summer either on Long Island where her family still lives, at Sokolin
and at private wine tastings or events hosted by Sokolin clients, or traveling through
Italy and Europe on the constant search for new and exciting producers to bring back to NY
to share with the clients and friends of Sokolin through her ‘Indie Wine’ page on
the Sokolin website.
