1983 rieussec Dessert White

Nectar-like if a bit on the sweet side, impressively complex, concentrated and focused. Deep gold, big, sweet and rich, with gobs of concentrated fig, brown sugar, butterscotch and oak flavor. A knockout.Wine Spectator | 94 WSLight golden with just the slightest tint of green, the 1983 Rieussec, from an excellent year for Sauternes, is certainly one of this property’s greatest wines. Well structured with excellent acidity, and a deep, long, rich, full-bodied, viscous texture, this wine, despite the richness and power, is neither heavy nor cloying. It has gorgeous balance and a very long, lingering, spectacular finish. One of the great successes of the vintage. Anticipated maturity: Now-2005. Last tasted, 3/88.Robert Parker | 92 RP

1988 la tour blanche Dessert

The 1988 exhibits superb richness, plenty of botrytis, creamy, honeyed, tropical fruit (pineapples galore), wonderfully integrated, toasty oak, crisp acidity, and a rich, full-bodied, long finish. The wine is just beginning to evolve and it is clearly capable of lasting for 25-35 years. Last tasted 11/94Robert Parker | 92 RP

1989 Rieussec

Dense and amazing with a thick mouthfeel and so much dried apple, apricot, and lemon character. It's long, sweet and intense. So much going on here. Love it. Love the 1989 vintage for Sauternes.James Suckling | 97 JSThe 1989 Rieussec is a fat, rich, broad-shouldered wine, with great depth and richness, and a formidably high alcohol content. I did not detect as much botrytis as I would have hoped. Nevertheless, it is a blockbuster, massive wine in the style of the richest 1983s. Its evolution should be fascinating to follow. Anticipated maturity: 1998-2015. Last tasted, 1/93.Robert Parker | 94 RP(Château Rieussec (Sauternes)) The 1989 Rieussec is drinking very well indeed at age twenty-seven, but it is already well into its plateau and is not likely to be one of the more long-distance vintages from this era at the estate. The nose is quite honeyed in its blend of apricot, orange, chalky soil tones, butterscotch, toasted coconut, incipient notes of walnuts and plenty of the aforementioned honey. On the palate the wine is deep. full-bodied, complex and already getting quite tertiary in profile, with crisp framing acids and very good length and grip on the fully mature, but still vibrant finish. This is a very good time to be drinking this vintage of Rieussec. (Drink between 2016-2026).John Gilman | 92 JGLively, complex, fresh aromas of tropical fruit, honey and spicy oak. Sweet and viscous in the middle palate; kept fresh by apple and pear notes and harmonious acidity. Very concentrated and deep. Very long on the aftertaste; has the sheer material to buffer its alcohol. Rieussec switched to later bottling with this vintage: 30 rather than 24 months after the harvest.Vinous Media | 92 VM

2000 dyquem Dessert White

Things were more difficult in Sauternes than in the rest of Bordeaux in the 2000 vintage, with a brilliant first picking in early October that showed all the promise of the vintage, but with the later crop ruined by heavy rain. In the end Yquem made 20% of its usual yield, but the success of the earlier growing season comes through with luxuriously concentrated apricot and marmalade flavours, laced with bitter orange, lime zest, butterscotch, saffron and white truffles. 128g/l of residual sugar, with total acidity of 4.5. The team behind this wine included current winemaking director Sandrine Garbay, who had begun two years earlier in 1998, with the château already partly owned by Bernard Arnault of LVMH (he bought his first shares in 1996) but still headed up by director Alexandre de Lur Saluces, whose family had been at Yquem since 1875. Drinking Window 2020 - 2050.Decanter | 96 DECForward and flattering, with unctuous marmalade, blood orange, apricot chutney and ginger notes. Juicy and engaging, but without the finely beaded acidity to stretch out fully.—Non-blind Yquem vertical (July 2014). Drink now through 2035.Wine Spectator | 92 WSA rich Yquem, with coffee, dried orange skin, and dried apples. Full and sweet, with a round body and very yummy. A touch of bitterness on the palate.James Suckling | 91 JSServed from an ex-chateau bottle. The millennial 2000 Chateau d’Yquem is a valiant effort in one of the most challenging Sauternes vintages in recent memory. The 2000 is quite deep in color. The nose is crisp and well-defined but not the most complex, as you would expect from a truly challenging growing season in Sauternes. It is pleasant in its own way with delicate scents of tangerine, yellow flowers and Mirabelle. The palate is well-balanced with marmalade tinged opening. I like the acidity here, an Yquem with good race, although it does feel a little tapered toward the finish. Drink now-2025. Tasted March 2014.Robert Parker Neal Martin | 90 RP-NM

2007 lafaurie peyraguey Dessert White

Packed with botrytis, this is a wine whose sweetness is suppressed by richness. Flavors of bitter oranges and white figs go with the intense core of botrytis, followed by a touch of bright acidity. This is a wine whose journey is just beginning.Wine Enthusiast | 94 WECropped over 7 tries with 130 grams per liter of residual sugar, the 2007 Chateau Lafaurie-Peyraguey has a generous bouquet with almond, dried honey, minerals and yellow flowers – a little resinous and almost Barsac-like at first, though developing more botrytized aromas with time. The palate is medium-bodied with a honeyed entry. There is very good weight here: plenty of botrytized fruit, good acidity, lovely notes of mandarin, marmalade, quince and a twist of citrus lemon on the dense and assertive finish. This is a top Lafaurie-Peyraguey that was worth the perseverance during the harvest.Robert Parker Neal Martin | 93 RP-NMThe 2007 Lafaurie-Peyraguey is one delicious Sauternes. It was picked over seven tries through the vineyard. It bursts from the glass with wild honey, mirabelle, vanilla pod and yellow flower scents displaying impressive intensity and delineation. As I commented with respect to previous bottles, there is Barsac-like personality to the 2007. The very pure palate presents a honeyed texture, more botrytized fruit than the 2006, and quince, barley sugar, Seville orange marmalade and almond notes that dovetail into a citrus-fresh finish. Superb. Tasted from an ex-château bottle at home.Vinous Media | 93 VMHoney, dried pineapple, apricot and tropical fruit on the nose. Full-bodied and medium sweet, with a spice, dried fruit and honey aftertaste. Balanced and pretty. Best after 2012.Wine Spectator | 91 WS(Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey (Sauternes)) The 2007 Lafaurie-Peyraguey is a very stylish example of the vintage that has perfectly captured the more ethereal aspect of the botrytis of the best examples of this year. The nose is deep and beautifully glazed, as it offers up scents of pineapple, oranges, honeycomb, a nice touch of soil and a deft framing of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, complex and quite long, with good, but not great depth at the core, beautiful, bright acidity and excellent length and grip on the impressively delicate and refined finish. At this early stage I have to give the 2007 Lafaurie-Peyraguey a decided edge over their 2005. A lovely bottle in the making. (Drink between 2015-2040)John Gilman | 90 JGFull body with much more concentration and structure than a second wine. Medium sweet, with spice and honey character. Serious intensity. Drink or hold.James Suckling | 90 JS

2010 suduiraut sauternes Dessert

The 2010 Suduiraut has an attractive bouquet with notes of Mirabelle, jasmine and saffron infusing the upfront honeyed fruit. This is no shy retiring wallflower. The palate is well balanced with a viscous opening, lightly spiced with a pleasant bitter note that lends tension on the finish. Good length, this is a very fine 2010 Sauternes. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners 10-Year On Bordeaux horizontal.Vinous Media | 95 VMTropical fruit flavours on the nose, caremelised pineapple with bright candied lemon alongside wonderfully sweet floral notes and a hint of burnt edges running through the wine from start to finish. Strong and robust, definitely a wine to enjoy with food be it sweet or savoury. A blend of 90% Semillon and 10% Sauvignon Blanc, aged 50% in new barrels, 50% from barrels of one vintage for 20 months. This Sauternes is elegant and with wonderfully balanced sweetness on the palate. Good structure and length. Vibrant acidity and lots of spice in the excellent finish. Excellent. Drink or hold.James Suckling | 95 JSThis is a gorgeously ripe, opulent wine that shows a rich fruit-salad ripeness, as well as darker notes of botrytis. The wine is full and very ripe with flavors of honey, fennel and lemon, with sweetness balanced by acidity. This is a wine that could be drunk soon but will age magnificently. Drink from 2016.Wine Enthusiast | 95 WEPale to medium lemon-gold colored, the 2010 Suduiraut features quite a savory nose with notes of lightly browned toast, salted almonds, nutmeg and cinnamon over a core of crème caramel, pear tart and peach cobbler. 2016 carmes de rieussec Dessert

The 2016 Carmes de Rieussec is absolutely gorgeous. Hints of passionfruit, pineapple and mint all run through this gracious Sauternes. Medium in body, open-knit and accessible, the 2016 is easy to drink and enjoy right now. The 2016 Carmes is an absolutely delicious second wine from Rieussec that emphasizes freshness and immediacy. Residual sugar is relatively modest at 120 grams per liter.Vinous Media | 92 VMNot yet bottled, the 2016 Carmes de Rieussec offers a medium to full-bodied, ripe, sweetly fruited, moderately honeyed style. This was a good, not great year for Sauternes due to the difficulty in the development of botrytis, but this has good purity, impressive balance, and is certainly delicious. Drink it over the coming 7-8 years.Jeb Dunnuck | 90-92 JDPale lemon in color, the 2016 Carmes de Rieussec features notes of candied orange peel and honey-drizzled peaches with touches of beeswax and lemon curd.
