2019 Domaine Antonin Guyon Volnay 1er Cru Clos Des Chenes

This is a powerfully ripe yet bristling, balanced wine full of sultry black-cherry and cassis flavors. Sourced from a vineyard located near the top of the Volnay slope, it’s a weighty Pinot Noir accented by hints of smoke, sweet spice and graphite. While still firm in tannin, the wine is approachable young and will likely improve through 2030 at least.Wine Enthusiast | 95 WEA discreetly perfumed nose reluctantly offers up its cool and pure aromas of spiced plum, black raspberry and pretty floral nuances, especially violet. There is even better size, weight and mid-palate density to the more mineral-inflected flavors that culminate in a youthfully austere and relatively powerful finish. This needs to develop more depth but that should occur if allowed sufficient time in bottle. This is well-worth checking out provided you intend to cellar it for at least 7 to 8 years first.Burghound | 91-93 BHFrom a parcel at the northern border of the climat, touching Taillepieds, comes the 2019 Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Chênes, a medium to full-bodied, velvety and concentrated wine evocative of sweet red berries, spices, raw cocoa and forest floor. Built around bright acids and velvety tannins, it’s a fine effort.Robert Parker Wine Advocate | 92 RPA slightly lighter, less forced purple, and very much so on the nose. Class and even elegance from the outset. This is pure and poised, with a strong backbone but it has much more precision and enough natural acidity. Fine persistence too. Tasted: May 2021.Jasper Morris | 92 JM
