One of my favorite estates in Pomerol is Jeremy Chasseuil’s Château Feytit-Clinet, which covers a little over 6 hectares located between Trotanoy and Latour a Pomerol, in the Clinet sector of Pomerol. The brilliant 2016 Château Feytit-Clinet is a blend of 93% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Franc that saw malolactic in barrel and 16 months in 70% new French oak. There are just over 1,500 cases of this elixir that reminds me of the 2010 with its incredibly classic, flawless personality. Pure crème de cassis, damp earth, black truffle, and graphite as well as hints of violets all emerge from this full-bodied, powerful yet seamless and elegant Pomerol. It never puts a foot wrong and is pure class, yet still has some rock star Pomerol sexiness. It has a deep garnet-purple color with lifted blueberries and black cherries with hints of lilacs, black tea, potpourri, wood smoke and black soil. The palate is full-bodied, concentrated, rich and bold with firm, rounded tannins, seamless freshness and a very long finish with chocolate hints. Graphite, sage, menthol, gravel, crushed rocks, new oak and iron give the 2016 its distinctive savory/feral profile. Powerful and yet also translucent, the 2016 conveys intensity, but with less overtness than has often been the case in recent vintages. Feytit-Clinet is usually a big, explosive wine. The 2016 lacks some of that intensity, but it is nevertheless very pretty and full of personality.Antonio Galloni | 94 AGRipe and spicy, this is a dense wine with solid tannins. Black plum and blackberry flavors give the wine its fruitiness, while the spicy tannins promise aging. This powerful wine has a good future.Wine Enthusiast | 93 WEThis is big, tight and a little foreboding in its tannic structure. It has some lovely floral notes on the nose, and it opens very nicely in the glass.There’s no question there’s a huge amount of black fruit lurking - those tannins are holding back the tide - and overall this is a dense experience. A beautiful St.-Julien that’s got everything you expect from this appellation, from the elegant, moderately dry tannins to the ripe red fruit and the lively acidity. Second wine of Château Lagrange. Drink or hold.James Suckling | 93 JSThe 2016 Les Fiefs de Lagrange offers blackberry, raspberry and light cedar scents on a nose that gradually unfurls in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fine acidity, a velvety-smooth texture and some quality new oak evident on the finish, fortunately neatly integrated and simpatico with the fruit. Excellent. Tasted blind at the Southwold tasting.Vinous Media | 91 VMAn open-knit style, with bright anise and açai notes out front, backed by cassis and crushed cherry fruit flavors. There is nice balance, making for an easy drinking yet impactful wine. Effortless. Wild nose. Impressive, deep hue and a wealth of fresh, violet-like aromas, as well as cassis, graphite and dark cherries. The palate has a very sleek, fine, powerful core of tannins that bring a lot of depth and deliver rich dark-fruit flavor. A classic Meyney. Best since 1961! Try from 2023.James Suckling | 96 JSThe 2016 Meyney has a very deep color. The bouquet is a stunner, delivering intense, mineral-rich black fruit pixelated to the nth degree. This is extremely focused and conveys the energy of a tightly coiled spring. The extremely well-balanced palate offers fine-grained tannins and superb acidity. Very pure and focused, with a harmonious, vibrant finish that lingers in the mouth. You can feel this lingering 45–60 seconds after the wine has exited. Wonderful. Tasted blind at the Southwold tasting.Vinous Media | 95 VM(Château Meyney, St-Estèphe, Red) Rich and full, this is very St-Estèphe: round through the mid-palate, with an amazingly tasty balance of richness and freshness leading to salinity and minerality on the finish. It will need another five to eight years before being ready to drink, but it has to be one of the value picks of the vintage. (Drink between 2021-2036)Decanter | 94 DECSolidly built, with a dark and juicy core of currant, plum and blackberry reduction flavors, inlaid with charcoal and smoldering tobacco notes. Offers a pleasant loamy tug through the finish. Gutsy wine. The better of two bottles tasted. Best from 2022 through 2032. 15,000 cases made.Wine Spectator | 92 WS

Sénéjac is a very classy château located in the far south of the Haut-Médoc. Owned by the Cordier family, it is overseen by Alfred Tesseron and the team from Pontet Canet. A refined, biodynamic Bordeaux red, this compares favourably with more highly classified wines. Dark red and blue fruits with leafy notes, fine tannins and subtle oak. Will age extremely well. (Drink between 2021-2028)Decanter | 93 DECVery charming and precocious with ripe-redcurrant character and a lovely combination of delicate sweetness and supple tannins on the palate, the finish long and silky. Drink or hold.James Suckling | 92 JSThe 2016 Sénéjac is wonderfully expressive. Savory, earthy and quite delicate, the 2016 is full of complexity and nuance. Sweet tobacco, dried flowers, mint and leather add shades of nuance to this pretty, inviting Haut-Médoc.Antonio Galloni | 91 AGMedium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Senejac gives notions of crushed red and black cherries, mulberries and cassis with touches of earth, violets, chocolate box and cinnamon stick. The 2016 Chateau d’Aiguilhe is a blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc picked from 30 September until 18 October, matured in 30% new oak. It has a warm and sensual bouquet: small macerated black cherries, blueberry and sloes, a light floral tincture emerging with time. This has a little more strictness compared to the 2015 last year. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and good body. Sappy black fruit, a touch of spice towards the finish, and you have yourself a very fine Côtes de Castillon.Robert Parker Neal Martin | 90-92 RP-NMThe 2016 d’Aiguilhe is absolutely delicious. Succulent, nuanced and inviting, the 2016 has so much to offer. Ripe cherry, plum, French oak, mocha, new leather and spice all flesh out effortlessly. Deep, generous and resonant, the 2016 captures all the best the vintage has to offer. Sweet, silky tannins add to the wine’s considerable appeal. It would be nice to see a bit less overtness to the oak. The wine really does not need it. In 2016, d’Aiguilhe is very pretty. Tasted two times. Antonio Galloni | 92 AGJuicy loganberry and black currant fruit forms an inviting core, while light bay, tobacco and violet notes fill in around the fruit. Offers a fleshy edge but keeps an emphasis on cut and drive through the finish. Drink now through 2028. 18,375 cases made.Wine Spectator | 92 WSThe 2016 Château d’Aiguilhe checks in as 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc brought up in 30% new barrels before being bottled with no fining. As with the white, it has brilliant limestone character as well as vibrant strawberry and black raspberry fruits, hints of violets and flowers, background oak, and medium to full-bodied richness. It’s a balanced, high-quality 2016 well worth seeking out. Drink it over the coming 15 years or so. (Drink between 2019-2034)Jeb Dunnuck | 92 JDThis is very precise with dark-berry, sandalwood and light chocolate character. Just a hint of sweet fruit and wet earth. Medium body, firm tannins and a pretty finish. Drinkable, but better in 2021.James Suckling | 92 JSStill at a youthful stage, the wine has a meaty, ferrous nuance but is packed with dark fruit behind. The palate is dense and structured with fine but firm tannins and there’s a fresh, saline finish. The power is there but in a subdued manner. Experience tells me it will age. Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2016 Grand-Pontet features bright, vibrant kirsch, warm redcurrants, blackberries and wild blueberries notions with hints of tobacco, tilled soil and underbrush. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is built like a brick house, with firm, grainy tannins and a lively line lifting the fruit to a long minerally finish.Robert Parker Wine Advocate | 94+ RPThe deep purple-colored 2016 Château Grand-Pontet is a blend of 70% Merlot and the balance Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. It offers a pretty, lifted bouquet of black cherries, plums, violets, damp earth, and bay leaf. This gives way to a medium to full-bodied, ripe, nicely concentrated wine that has beautiful purity of fruit, rock solid mid-palate depth, moderate tannins, and a great finish. Drink this ripe, powerful 2016 over the coming 15+ years.Jeb Dunnuck | 93 JDRipe and velvety with plenty of blackberry and cocoa-powder character, until you get to the bold, rather powerful, polished and handsomely tannic finish. A blend of 80 per cent merlot, 13 per cent cabernet franc and seven per cent cabernet sauvignon. Try from 2022.James Suckling | 92 JSThe 2016 Grand-Pontet has come together impressively during its élevage. Espresso, chocolate, licorice, leather, new oak and smoke are generous in this deep, layered Saint-Émilion. Powerful, creamy and quite giving, the 2016 has a lot to offer.
