Wine Critic Reviews:

Finally, the 1983 Lafite is beginning to shed its tannin. The wine exhibits a deep ruby/garnet color with only a slight lightening at the edge. The intoxicatingly perfumed nose of lead pencil, pain grille, red and black fruits, minerals, and roasted herbs is provocative. In the mouth, this wine displays considerable body for a Lafite, plenty of power, and a fleshy, rich, sweet mid-palate. Long, elegant, plump, and surprisingly fleshy, this outstanding example of Lafite seems largely forgotten given the number of high quality vintages during the golden decade of the eighties. Anticipated maturity: Now-2030. Robert Parker

Sokolin 1983 Lafite Rothschild Tasting Notes:

How do you know you're in love? There are butterflies in your stomach, your cheeks turn red, your tongue is tangled and you cannot mouth three simple words that make sense. You may even feel a bit dizzy. And warm inside. Are you sure you haven't had a glass of the 1983 Lafite Rothschild?

Because this is what this wine does to you. You will lose your mind over this Rothschild completely. Its reputation is epic and it doesn't even do it justice. It's even better than what people are saying. Its estimated maturity period is almost unlimited so no wonder it belongs to the wine royal family - the Premier Grand Cru Classe. Cabernet Sauvignon prevails, but there's also a bit of the sweet black cherry Merlot and other grape varieties so this blend has no real rival. One of a kind in its category - a must-have for any wine lover.

Region Bordeaux: Even among the greatest and most reputable wine regions on the planet, Bordeaux stands above the rest. The winemakers of this region have a single-minded dedication to the fine art of viticulture and their efforts never fail to show. If you consider yourself a fine wine enthusiast, you owe it to yourself to visit Bordeaux - life changing. Whether you wish to drink some inspirational and gripping wine as soon as possible, or you want to add some masterpieces to your collection, no region on Earth is a more obvious choice. The noble and beautiful Garonne and Dordogne rivers surge through southwestern France, enriching the soil in a way very few other places can boast. The limestone-based earth is rich in calcium, and the almost oceanic climate conditions give the staple Bordeaux grape varietals vigor and flavor like nowhere else. For their illustrious reds, Bordeaux winemakers rely on a proven combination of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Meanwhile, a sip of their excellent white wine hints at the use of Semillon, Muscadelle and Sauvignon Blanc. Each of these varietals carries a unique identity, making every quality wine a character piece to rival Citizen Kane. It can be incredibly hard to choose only a few wines to collect for your cellar!
