Wine Critic Reviews:

Wine of the vintage and the greatest Chateau Margaux yet produced. A stunning red. The essence of raspberry, violet and berry, with hints of vanilla and toasted oak. Full-bodied and thick, yet racy, with masses of tannins and a harmonious structure. Long, long finish...

Had several glasses over dinner (roast duck). Definitely a heavy-hitter, even though I have to rate it slightly lower than the magnificent 1990 vintage. Lots of smoke and tobacco on the nose, gives the fruit some welcome edge. A steady dose of blackcurrant. Plums somewhat dominant, certainly not unwelcome. Supple tannins, a classic approach. The finish is long and fiery, very gripping.
If you can afford it, you won't find much better out there. The wine complements game especially well, along with an assortment of cheeses. Experimentation is part of the fun, so have at it. Another very good year for Margaux, no doubt about it.

  2. Absolutely majestic wine.

My husband and I felt one of those wine cravings we all sometimes experience, and our noses led us here. We love this wine! Just a whiff of its aromatic mixture and you know you're in for a treat. Leather, game, currant, blackberries - you name it! My personal favorite was the charcoal that slowly wanders in, adding a smoky, mineral-ish shine to the already stunning wine.
If you're interested in this vintage, I recommend getting more than one bottle. You're certainly going to want more than one once you get a taste, and your friends won't complain, either. Absolutely majestic wine.

  3. One of the best wines I've had in the last ten years.

One of the best wines I've had in the last ten years. Behind the respectable Margaux label lies an energetic beast of a wine, with gargantuan red fruits creating a layered avalanche effect on an oaky canvas. The raspberries are out of this world. The mouthfeel is also noteworthy, and it feels like your whole body is participating when you give full attention to the wine.
My cellar could definitely use a few more of these bottles. The price is less than what I expected, given the quality, so I'll be sure to stock up. It's elegant, precise, divine - anything you could ever ask for.

  4. a refined, calculated wine, with a myriad of interesting flavors mixed together

A very solid vintage, there's no doubt about it. It's a refined, calculated wine, with a myriad of interesting flavors mixed together. Raspberries and red fruit lead the charge, with oak fragments seeping in slowly and building up to a grandiose earthy performance. Notes of vanilla manage to smooth out the potentially overwhelming oak, creating a well-balanced, elegant wine. The mouthfeel is also stunning from start to finish.
I would have preferred a less intense oak presence, as I found it a bit too strong, but it's definitely not a deal-breaker. I'm planning a gift for my son's graduation party, and since he likes minerals and wood notes in his wines, he should love a bottle like this!
