Wine Critic Reviews:

A brilliant offering and a candidate for wine of the vintage, this is classic Lafite that reminded me somewhat of the 1976, although the vintage conditions were completely different. This is a medium-weight, quintessentially elegant style of Lafite with notes of lead pencil shavings/graphite along with black currants, plums, and crushed rocks/mineral. Wonderfully pure, dense, with a deep ruby/purple color and loads of fruit, definition, and a long finish, this is a brilliant, elegant Lafite Rothschild that builds incrementally in the mouth and has more power and density than it initially seems. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2025.

Sokolin 2002 Lafite Rothschild Tasting Notes:

If we had to choose one bottle that deserves the absolute spotlight when it comes to Lafite wines, that'd be the 2002 vintage. This Cabernet Sauvignon blend reflects the unique and undeniable commitment to the production of high-quality wines exclusively, made of hand-picked clusters that guarantee the full flavor of the most exquisite Pauillac treats.

The breathtaking song the 2002 Lafite Rothschild will sing from your glass starts with the classy, refined nose that displays gorgeous tobacco, black currants, berries, and some mineral tones in the background. It's as elegant as they get.

However, the grace escalates with the palate, where this wine will blow you away with its powerful voice incarnated in a fantastically structured and complex ruby, almost purple, a liquid that awakens the feelings you think you'd buried down deep. It's, however, capable of reaching deep into your soul and bringing out the purity of joy, just like its texture can't be described as anything else but purity and softness of a cloud.

After you've soaked in all the incredible fruit flavors, such as blackberries, with developing layers of tea leaf and tobacco, this Pauillac will lead you right into a glorious finish worth remembering for the rest of your life. Firm and brilliant, it announces a prolonged maturity of this beautiful red, so you can choose between uncorking your bottle now, or waiting at least five more years.

The noble and beautiful Garonne and Dordogne rivers surge through southwestern France, enriching the soil in a way very few other places can boast. The limestone-based earth is rich in calcium, and the almost oceanic climate conditions give the staple Bordeaux grape varietals vigor and flavor like nowhere else. For their illustrious reds, Bordeaux winemakers rely on a proven combination of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Meanwhile, a sip of their excellent white wine hints at the use of Semillon, Muscadelle and Sauvignon Blanc. Each of these varietals carries a unique identity, making every quality wine a character piece to rival Citizen Kane. It can be incredibly hard to choose only a few wines to collect for your cellar!
