The wine almost drinks itself. It's approachable and accessible without sacrificing any depth or intensity. If I had to pick my favorite Margaux vintages, the lovely 2005 vintage would make my top five list. It's not the best I ever had, but it comes damn close. Bilberries and blackberries galore, with gripping aromatics and a smooth, sensual mouthfeel. The wine almost drinks itself. It's approachable and accessible without sacrificing any depth or intensity. Don't sleep on this vintage; it outperforms so many.
I will be cellaring more of these once I get my hands on them. It's a vintage I will be returning to in the years to come, just to sample the ever-evolving, nuanced Margaux in the making.
The wine will sweep you off your feetOne of my favorite wines from recent memory, for sure. The wine is a bit shy at first, and exudes a very feminine aura, especially once the aromatics start squeezing in. It's a seductive mixture of graphite, minerals, and incredibly strong and juicy fruit. Topped off with a touch of sandalwood for good measure. The finish is tense and gripping, pulling your attention away from anything else.
Thoroughly recommended, especially if you like the producer already. This is a vintage you don't want to miss, and it's honestly quite affordable. The wine will sweep you off your feet if you let your guard down for even a second.
