Wine Critic Reviews:

The 2009 Lafite Rothschild is a candidate for "wine of the vintage." ...may be the most concentrated Lafite I have ever tasted...There is not a hard edge to be found in this inky/purple-colored wine displaying notes of charcoal, incense, black currants, and licorice. In the mouth, it represents a liqueur of black fruits offered in a remarkably full-bodied, incredibly elegant, lush style. Expansive, savory, staggeringly concentrated, and voluptuous as well as wonderfully precise with a hint of minerality, this sensational wine's technical numbers are off the charts. Is this a replay of the 1959?...

Sokolin 2009 Lafite Rothschild Tasting Notes:

Compelling. Profound. Grand. There's hardly an appropriate adjective for this immensely impactful wine. It's fierce and generously perfumed, adamant, yet without even the slightest edge. The talent and opulence that another wine would be selling as its highest virtue, here is bulked together in a display of sheer luxury, more decoration than real purpose.

This wine cuts straight to the point, brazen and unmatched. The aromatics of spring flowers, raisins, tobacco, herbs, and lush dark berries announce what's to come with the first sip. Flavors of crisp red and blue fruit, minerals, charcoal and licorice follow seamlessly, reaching great depth in the middle palate, undisturbed by the perfectly integrated tannins. The texture at this point is striking, entirely creamy and smooth and unbelievable despite the force this wine carries.

It's round and characteristically elegant, but vigorous, like a fireball that doesn't destroy but rather illuminates, cleanses and provokes a sort of rebirth. Once it finishes, you can't help but feel fresh and inspired, like a real phoenix rising from the flames. If you seek a once in a lifetime experience and aren't easily intimidated, this wine has your name written on it. It has enough life in it to survive decades, so you don't have to rush to get the best of it - as long as it's safely stored in your cellar.

Region Bordeaux: Even among the greatest and most reputable wine regions on the planet, Bordeaux stands above the rest. The winemakers of this region have a single-minded dedication to the fine art of viticulture and their efforts never fail to show. If you consider yourself a fine wine enthusiast, you owe it to yourself to visit Bordeaux - life changing. Whether you wish to drink some inspirational and gripping wine as soon as possible, or you want to add some masterpieces to your collection, no region on Earth is a more obvious choice. The noble and beautiful Garonne and Dordogne rivers surge through southwestern France, enriching the soil in a way very few other places can boast. The limestone-based earth is rich in calcium, and the almost oceanic climate conditions give the staple Bordeaux grape varietals vigor and flavor like nowhere else. For their illustrious reds, Bordeaux winemakers rely on a proven combination of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Meanwhile, a sip of their excellent white wine hints at the use of Semillon, Muscadelle and Sauvignon Blanc. Each of these varietals carries a unique identity, making every quality wine a character piece to rival Citizen Kane. It can be incredibly hard to choose only a few wines to collect for your cellar!
