The 2010 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Spéciale Les Hautes Brusquières comes from a cool terroir in the northern part of the appellation and is 60% Grenache and 40% Mourvèdre brought up in a mix of tank and barrel. It’s always the biggest and most opulent of the special cuvées from this terrific estate, and the 2010 is still young, but just starting to turn the corner and hit its drinking plateau. Garrigue, blackcurrants, crushed rocks, pepper, and a gorgeous meatiness all emerge from the glass, and it’s elegant, layered, yet powerful on the palate. This beauty has richness and grace on the palate, with plenty of underlying structure. It will continue drinking brilliantly for another 10-15 years and keep even longer. Jeb Dunnuck

The 2010 vintage is easily the greatest vintage for this estate to date. The 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape les Hautes Brusquières Cuvee Speciale is a total blockbuster that sports an inky purple color as well as heavenly notes of dark fruits, roasted herbs, licorice, cured meats and garrigue. Unctuous, ripe, full-bodied, massively concentrated and yet impeccably balanced, it will have 20-25 years of overall longevity.

A very lively, energetic style, with lots of brambly structure underneath the layers of fig, plum and blackberry fruit. Sweet tobacco, anise and spice notes fill in the finish, which has excellent definition. Should age very nicely. Best from 2015 through 2030. 1,000 cases made.

Varietal	Proprietary Blend : Proprietary Blend is a general term used to indicate that a wine is comprised of multiple grape varietals which are either “proprietary” to the winery or is blended and does not meet the required maximum or minimum percentage of a particular varietal. This also is the case for the grape’s place of origin, especially for region, appellation or vineyard designated wines. There are endless examples of blended wines which are labeled as “Proprietary Blend” and in conjunction with each region’s stipulated wine laws and regulations makes for a vast blanket for wines to fall into. Perhaps the simplest example is California; if a wine is to be labeled as Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, it is required to have at least 75% of the varietal (Cabernet Sauvignon) and 85% of the fruit must be cultivated from the Napa Valley wine district. If the wine does not meet the requirements, it is then labeled as Proprietary Blend.
