Wine Critic Reviews for 2013 Sesti Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Phenomena

Camphor, wild berry, violet, crushed herb and pipe tobacco aromas align in the glass. Savory and elegant, the focused palate shows a youthful tension while a mineral vein underscores juicy red cherry, raspberry compote, star anise and baking spice. Bright acidity keeps it balanced. Drink 2023–2038.

This wine carries its weight and intensity very nicely. The 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Phenomena delivers classic characteristics of Sangiovese grown in this unique appellation located in southern Tuscany. Bold cherry and cassis are followed by spice, smoke and scorched earth. In the mouth, this Riserva offers density, power and momentum. Thanks to that bright acidity, the wine should evolve well. Some 3,800 bottles were produced.

Medium deep red. Ripe aromas of redcurrant, truffle, mocha and faded flowers on the slightly reserved nose. Then similar flavors to the aromas, with a strong tannic overlay. Dense and juicy, but quite tannic currently, this needs time to expand further, but has finishing grip to ensure your patience will be rewarded in time.

Giuseppe Sesti and his daughter Elisa have been making some of the best wines in Montalcino from their organically tended vineyards in the hamlet of Argiano for years. Although the estate is in the southern, warmer part of the denomination, the wines always shine in elegance and fine tannic structure. This one is their best yet, with mouth-filling fruit pulled into shape by vibrant acidity, while maintaining its elegant constitution. Drinking Window 2022 - 2032.

Country Italy: What are the first things that come to mind when thinking about Italy and Italian culture? There's one thing that nearly everyone tends to mention, it's the food - and where there's fine food, there is almost always fine wine. Italy is the most prolific wine region in the world, outclassing even France in terms of production quantity. Even if you're a complete wine novice, you have almost certainly heard of names such as Barolo and Barbaresco, Italy's most famous wine styles. When it comes to soil composition and other geographical characteristics, Italy offers a lot of diversity, and this never fails to show in the wines themselves.

The wines can be as sweet as a fresh summer romance, and carry an air of dignity and elegance about them that can stimulate your intellect for months as you contemplate the seemingly infinite intricacies and details in the texture. Tuscany is an important part of Italian viticulture, and sampling their wines is the closest you can get to visiting this heavenly region and experiencing the culture.
Type of Wine Brunello: As you indulge in some fine Brunello, and you gaze into the deep brown elixir, your tongue will almost pulsate with excitement, as rich flavors of black cherry, chocolate, black raspberry, and blackberry are woven together like a heartfelt poem. An earthy, leathery undertone provides excellent contrast next to all the fruit, rounding out the experience .
