Wine Critic Reviews:

Another off the charts effort is the 2015 Syrah Cattle King Upland Vineyard, which is also saturated purple/black in color. Possessing a more backward, yet insanely pure bouquet of crème de cassis, black fruits, smoked earth, graphite, and violets, it’s beautifully concentrated, has no hard edges, thrilling purity, and a gorgeous, layered, awesome, multi-dimensional style. It needs short-term cellaring but is a monumental wine from Washington.

The 2015 Syrah Cattle King is deep and brooding, unfurling in the glass with notes of crème de cassis, plum preserve, incense and burning embers. On the palate, it's full-bodied, ample and layered, with a deep core of concentrated fruit that conceals a chassis of fine-grained but abundant tannins that only assert themselves on the finish. Though it's more powerful than The Beautiful, Cattle King isn't as complex, multifaceted or graceful, but it's a very persuasive Washington Syrah in its own right.

(from 25+-year-old vines on a volcanic outcropping): Bright, full medium ruby. Pungent aromas of cassis, blackberry, boysenberry, black olive, licorice and bitter chocolate. At once plush and dry, with purple berry and floral flavors accented by a note of orange peel. Offers captivating salinity and inner-mouth lift and finishes with a firm spine of building tannins. This wine is showing more personality than the 2014 version did at the same stage but seemed to go into a shell in the glass. (14.5% alcohol)

Vinous Media | 93 VM
This is 100% whole cluster pressed, aged on skins for 43 days before being aged in half new and half neutral puncheons. Focused aromas of blackberry, black raspberry, clove pod, licorice, orange peel, smoked meat and herb lead to ripe, rich, lip-smacking fruit flavors that trail slightly on the finish. Its best days are in front of it.

Country US: As one of the most prolific and innovative wine regions in the world, America is a joy to explore. Most wine connoisseurs will agree that the nation's finest and most compelling wines are being produced today, which means that we have front-row seats to one of the most inspirational stories in wine history. While other regions tend to focus on specific wine styles and have somewhat strict rules as to which varietals you could grow, areas like California have few such restrictions in place. As a result, creative visionaries behind America's most reputable estates have been able to develop compelling, unique, and innovative styles, with a level of terroir expression that rivals even France's largest giants.
Producer K Vintner: While K Vintner is incredibly young in the grand scheme of things (having opened their doors in 2001), their reputation is growing at an incredibly rapid pace. If you're in the mood for an inspirational, classy Syrah, this Washington wonder will take care of all your needs. Their reds are potent, multi-layered, and precise, exhibiting exceptional finesse and structure. The fruit is perfectly ripe, and the aromatic traces are as diverse as they are intoxicating. Picture an aromatic collage of dark fruit, cherry compote, wet mineral, espresso, and sweet pepper; these are only some of the many subtle hints and traces you could discover. For how good their wines are, the price range is shockingly accessible, so make sure you reserve your bottles on time!

Region Washington: While California definitely owns the spotlight when it comes to excellent American wines, Washington winemakers should certainly not be underestimated. While their traditional focus was set firmly on refreshing, illustrious white wines, they've adopted French red varietals like Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Since then, they've been achieving excellence in both categories and can compete with the world's most prestigious viticultural titans. Flavor-wise, you can expect a healthy amount of variety when it comes to Washington's finest wines. From acidic and fruity bottles that can shake you up from even the deepest slumber or sadness to rich and ripe powerhouses that command the respect of everyone in the room after as much as a single whiff. Juicy raspberries that gently tickle your tongue, deep and noble blackberries, intense cherries and earthen oak - these are the flavors that characterize this region, despite the presence of an entire orchestral symphony of other aromatic notes. A sampling of fine wine from Washington is a lot like being seduced, so why not uncork one of these bottles for a potential or existing partner? With a drink of this quality, those romantic sparks will turn into a fireworks display, as your emotions are laid bare and intensified, and you make a connection that can last a lifetime.
