Sokolin 2016 Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon Tasting Notes:

The fact that this Caymus is only five years old is definitely a detail you should discard right away. There's nothing that could disqualify this youngster from the race for Napa Valley's most stylish wine ever. Bear in mind that life hasn't even begun for this wine - its best years are yet to come. The estimated maturity period for the 2015 bottle is till 2032, to say the least, so if you have one of these, you don't have to hurry. Save it for later and savor it on its peak.

If you still decide to uncork the bottle now, the 2015 Caymus will introduce you to its wildly intriguing side by showing off its fabulous aromatics - black fruits with earthy tones in the background creating a true explosion of scents along with the unavoidable oak. Don't even consider visiting this region without stopping by to dip your taste buds into the magnificent flavors of blackberries, licorice, and plum.

Country US: As one of the most prolific and innovative wine regions in the world, America is a joy to explore. Most wine connoisseurs will agree that the nation's finest and most compelling wines are being produced today, which means that we have front-row seats to one of the most inspirational stories in wine history. While other regions tend to focus on specific wine styles and have somewhat strict rules as to which varietals you could grow, areas like California have few such restrictions in place. As a result, creative visionaries behind America's most reputable estates have been able to develop compelling, unique, and innovative styles, with a level of terroir expression that rivals even France's largest giants.

Region California: With a history of wine production that dates back to the 18th century, California currently sits as one of the world's most prolific and reputable wine regions. With an area as vast as California, you can expect a colorful collage of terroir profiles, a series of microclimates, and micro-environments that give the wine a unique, memorable appeal. The region's produce is far from homogenized in that sense, and it would take you countless hours to sample all of it. While the region boasts scars from the Prohibition era, it went through what can only be described as a viticultural Renaissance sometime after the 1960s. At that point, California went from a port-style, sweet wine region to a versatile and compelling competitor on the world market. Today, no matter which way your taste in wine leans, you can find a new favorite producer among California's most talented. Notable sub-regions include legendary names like Napa Valley and Sonoma County, places that any wine lover would die to visit. California's quintessential warm climate allows for incredibly ripe fruit expressions, a style that provides a stark contrast to Old World-inspired, earthy classics. Even where inspiration was clearly taken from staple French appellations, Californian winemakers put their own unique spin on the wine.
Type of Wine California Red: Whether it's Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah or Zinfandel, Californian red wine producers have a lovely habit of taking a varietal and expressing its essence in a unique, never before seen way. From Napa Valley to the regions south of Los Angeles, there's a red for everyone - and it's never too late to start exploring.

I'm not a wine expert, but I appreciate a fine one every now and then. I wanted to surprise my husband for our fifth anniversary so I ordered a bottle of the 2016 Caymus - I heard it's an impressive bottle even though it's so young. I read a couple of great reviews and decided to try my luck. It didn't disappoint me. My husband didn't know which one it was, and he loved it! He was really surprised when I told him it was practically a baby… Now he's making me buy another one to save for some other anniversary, in ten years or so… I believe it's going to rock. Those tannins were so yummy, and the aromas are superb! So enchanting, dark chocolate and vanilla… I can't wait to drink it again.

We opened this bottle last month to celebrate my best friend's promotion. I was the one to bring it and after we finished it, my friend couldn't thank me enough! Too bad it was only one bottle because this wine is incredibly enjoyable! We all loved the aromas before anything, it was just like chocolate and some dark fruits, which is also what it tasted like. For me, it felt like I was eating blackberry and plum jam, so delicious. I don't like alcoholic drinks too much, and this wine has quite a volume, but the sweet flavors make a wonderful balance. If I compare it to some other wines I've tasted before, it was 100% better, and I'm looking forward to stumbling upon it again some time.
