Wine Critic Reviews:

This 0.3ha vineyard covers two parcels on stony soils that always ripen early and were picked on August 29th in 2018. Rich, supple, yet not remotely figgy or over-done, it's a wine that has bent the vintage conditions to its will. Spicy and concentrated, it has a hint of subtle reduction, texture and freshness from 80% whole bunches and a saline finish. Wonderful stuff from one of Burgundy's greatest estates. Drinking Window 2023 - 2035.

The 2018 Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru lives up to its superb showing from barrel, unwinding in the glass with aromas of blackberries, wild plums, rose petals, spices and loamy soil. Full-bodied, deep and layered, it's elegantly muscular, with a concentrated core of fruit, lively acids and a broad framing of rich, powdery tannins. While this is built for the long haul, it's much less forbiddingly structured than was once the case for this cuvée.

The 2018 Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru comes from two parcels of 45- and 80-year-old vines on much stonier soils than the Charmes-Chambertin. This has a knockout nose of brambly black fruit, cassis and crushed stone aromas that gain intensity with every swirl of the glass. The palate is silky-smooth on the entry and very precise and focused, with great tension toward the shimmering vintage. This is definitely one of the best Mazoyères-Chambertins I have tasted in over ten years of coming to this domaine.

(Domaine Dugat-Py Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru Red) There has just enough reduction to shave the top notes from the nose where hints of earth and dark berries can still be discerned. Otherwise there is terrific punch, detail and minerality to the tautly muscular, vibrant and mineral-driven big-bodied flavors that are supported by very firm tannins on the ever-so-mildly austere and gorgeously persistent finale. As is often the case with this wine, it's both restrained and compact at present but everything is in place such that it should age beautifully. In a word, excellent. (Drink starting 2038).

Type of Wine Burgundy Red: If you have a craving for some beautiful, mind-expanding Pinot Noir, few regions can match the talent and consistency of Burgundy. The grape almost seems like it evolved for this very region, and its essence will stimulate your senses and arouse your imagination. Drink deep and experience almost spiritual enlightenment.
Varietal Pinot Noir: Pinot Noir is possibly the most versatile red grape when it comes to the ways it's been used over the years. From red wines to sparkling wines and beyond, there aren't many places where you can avoid hearing about it, and for a good reason. It's often easy to spot a bottle of Pinot Noir simply by the pale, translucent color, which transitions into a shade reminiscent of old-timey brickwork, adding a lovely dash of country charm to an already awe-inspiring drink.
