Wine Critic Reviews for 2018 Istine Chianti Classico Casanova dell'Aia

The 2018 Chianti Classico Vigna Casanova dell'Aia is a rich, powerful wine. It is also a bit less put together than the other wines in the range at this stage. Succulent black cherry, plum, licorice, tobacco, spice and new leather all build as this decidedly potent, virile wine shows everything it has. All of the Istine 2018s need more time, none moreso than the Casanova dell'Aia.

Vinous Media | 94+ VM
Made entirely with Sangiovese, this has energizing aromas of crushed mint, cedar, rose and tilled earth. Vibrant and focused, the structured palate delivers juicy black cherry, ripe plum and baking spice alongside taut, fine-grained tannins. It finishes on a licorice note. Give it a few more years to fully develop. Drink 2023–2028.

Wine Enthusiast | 93 WE
A juicy, fruity red with blackberry, mushroom and walnut aromas and flavors. Lots of fruit and a chewy finish. I like the mushroom and spice undertones to the fruit. Drink now or hold.

James Suckling | 92 JS
A ripe version, this exhibits macerated cherry, plum and tobacco flavors, allied to a succulent profile. Ample tannins and vibrant acidity extend the savory finish. Best from 2023 through 2036. 220 cases made, 100 cases imported.

Country Italy: What are the first things that come to mind when thinking about Italy and Italian culture? There's one thing that nearly everyone tends to mention, it's the food - and where there's fine food, there is almost always fine wine. Italy is the most prolific wine region in the world, outclassing even France in terms of production quantity. Even if you're a complete wine novice, you have almost certainly heard of names such as Barolo and Barbaresco, Italy's most famous wine styles. When it comes to soil composition and other geographical characteristics, Italy offers a lot of diversity, and this never fails to show in the wines themselves.
Type of Wine Chianti: To taste a finely crafted, delicious Chianti is to speak with the spirit of noble, wise people. These Tuscan titans are a demonstration of Sangiovese's purity and potency, and a thrill ride for the senses. Drink deep and prepare to visit paradise with a bottle of delicious Chianti at your side.
