The 2023 Chambolle-Musigny Aux Beaux Bruns 1er Cru has a deeper, richer, more tertiary nose than the preceding Aux Combottes. Touches of brown spice emerge with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with gentle grip, good structure and complexity. This is a little sauvage and savory toward the lingering finish. It’s not quite up there with the superlative 2022, but it will give 15 to 20 years of drinking pleasure.Vinous Media | 92-94 VMThe premier cru of Beaux Bruns is often one of the most black fruity wines in the Barthod cellars and this is certainly the case again in 2023. The wine still shares a lovely sense of sappiness and excellent transparency with its more red fruity cousins, offering up scents of sweet dark berries, black cherries, currant leaf, woodsmoke, pigeon, a nice touch of spices, a good foundation of soil and a gentle framing of cedary oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and nicely tangy in personality, with a sappy core of black fruit, fine soil inflection and grip, ripe tannins and excellent length and balance on the classy finish. Gorgeously textured and caressing middle weight flavors possess both good richness and punch while displaying a very subtle bead of minerality that adds a sense of lift on the compact and lingering if ever-so-mildly tangy finale.
