The 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet La Romanée 1er Cru is a step up from the En Cailleret, just as I found last year—perhaps because it was cropped at the lowest yield after some of the crop was lost to oidium. Suddenly, more tension and mineralité come through, with touches of petrichor and vibrant citrus fruit. The palate is taut and fresh, with well-integrated oak, commendable depth and a very harmonious finale of peach skin and yellow plum. What a lovely Chassagne this is going to be.Vinous Media | 92-94 VMPale yellow. A little soft oak on the nose. Coconut too on the palate. I would like a little more grip here. More yellow in the colour, a waxy flesh, slight evolution in the sample, I cannot quite see the stones up front. They do appear on the palate and the wine extends very well through to a flinty finish, with some saline notes right at the back. Drink from 2028-2034. The palate is well balanced with tropical notes of passionfruit and guava on the entry. Smooth in texture with countervailing acidity, the 2023 finishes open and easy-drinking. The 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Houillères is a level up from the regular Village, with more mineralité and terroir expression. The palate is well balanced and linear in style, with a keen line of acidity, fine weight and a sapid, chamomile-tinged close. Maybe the 2022 had a touch more depth on the finish, but this is worth seeking out.Vinous Media | 91 VMOld vines with a younger plot as well. Mid lemon yellow. The bouquet has a discreet distinction, more in minerals than flesh, one jar again. Tighter and more precise on the palate, with a light ripe citrus note added to the orchard fruit. In bottle. The grapefruit and honey aromas of this wine are echoed in its crisp and rounded textures. It is ripe with apple and spice flavors, the wood aging subtly in the background. Drink from 2027. Wine Enthusiast | 96 WEWith its lemon rind and grassy notes, this Sauvignon Blanc dominated wine - ever reliable - continues to appeal in 2023, although it does have some varietal aspects that come across as less nuanced when compared to some of its peers. Nonetheless, this is excellent white wine, with grip, juiciness, depth and freshness. A hint of seashell, too. It’s medium-bodied, fresh and focused with tense acidity and a firm, lightly phenolic finish.James Suckling | 93-94 JSA blend of 65% Sauvignon Blanc and 35% Sémillon, the 2023 Carbonnieux Blanc exhibits elegant aromas of pear, white peach, spring flowers and herbs, followed by a medium-bodied, satiny and long texture enhanced by bright acids and a lively mid-palate. Mid yellow, a little more tension to the nose, thanks to old vines in this hillside site. Thee’s a savoury note too. Slightly more intensity compared to La Romanée, medium plus length. Tasted Nov 2024.Jasper Morris | 91-93 JMThe 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet En Remilly 1er Cru, raised in one-third new oak (350-liter barrels) has a little more lift than the La Romanée, with fine delineation as orchard fruit meets light hazelnut aromas. The palate is well balanced with more ripeness and richness by comparison, and perhaps not quite the same tension, though it feels persistent on the finish. The 2023 Rosé Mirabeau en Provence Pure makes a lasting impression as enriching notes of confectionery spice and sweet smoke complement freshly sliced nectarines. It’s silken in form, with stimulating acidity and citrus tones that add lovely depth as ripe pit fruits swirl throughout. Mid lemon yellow, almost a green tint. Slightly reductive but still with some flesh behind. Young vines here, planted in 2018, but that doesn’t stop the elegance. Lively, floral, a little lime blossom, no great weight but beautifully balanced in pure white fruit. A small crop as they have just switched this to guyot poussard pruning. Drink from 2027-2033. Tasted Nov 2024.Jasper Morris | 91-94 JMThe 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Fairandes 1er Cru, which was regrafted with Chardonnay in 2017, has a pleasant, reductive nose that will need a few years in bottle. The palate is well balanced with a peachy entry alongside hints of apricot and clementine, leading to a pretty finish with pleasant rondeur. This is well-made and quite delicious, especially considering the youthfulness of the vines.Vinous Media | 90-92 VM

The single vineyard bottling of Franclieu from Jean Manciat is his finest terroir, with these thirty to thirty-five year-old vines planted on argilo-calcaire soils. The wine is fermented with native yeasts and raised in stainless steel tanks until bottling. The 2023 Franclieu is a touch lower in octane than the regular Mâcon-Charnay bottling in this vintage, coming in at 13.5 percent alcohol. It delivers a beautifully precise and more soil-defined bouquet of apple, pear, almond, chalky soil tones and a lovely floral topnote redolent of both white lilies and apple blossoms. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, zesty and complex, with a beautiful core of pure fruit, excellent mineral drive and grip, a lovely spine of acidity and a long, pure and impeccably balanced finish. This is outstanding Mâcon and more refined and soil-driven in personality than the regular bottling! 2025-2040.John Gilman | 92+ JG

An astonishing expression of the new spirit of Beaujolais, this has the depth and finesse of a great Grand Cru red burgundy married to the vitality and purity that only this region can achieve. The mind-blowing, velvety texture is interwoven with amazing crushed-rock and wet-stone minerality on the expansive palate. The exceptionally long finish, at once firm and precise, just doesn’t want to stop. From a five- hectare block in the Aux Caves site. 20% whole-cluster fermented. Pure black cherry, cassis and pressed violet petal scents percolate through with time in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied, harmonious and lightly spiced, with smooth, pliant tannins. Like other vintages, this is not a subtle or understated Moulin-à-Vent, but this is so pure and seductive that it’s difficult to resist. You have been warned!Vinous Media | 92 VM

Hold onto your hat. This is an extraordinarily seductive expression of Moulin-a-Vent. Dense and compact but also incredibly plush and dynamic, it makes a huge statement, a bit like meeting the goddess of black cherries. Interlocking fine tannins and remarkable minerality in the dazzling, almost endless finish. From totally destemmed fruit. Cold maceration for four days. Long fermentation. Aged 11 months in used Burgundian barrels. Drink or hold.James Suckling | 99 JSMade from 100% destemmed fruit and aged for 11 months in barrels (10% new), the 2023 Moulin-à-Vent La Rochelle is suave on the palate, layered with complex notes of stewed black cherries, licorice, black pepper, confit orange and spice. Full-bodied, the wine opens with a rounded, velvety profile that gracefully tapers, shaped by well-integrated, smooth-coated tannins, ascending toward a refined, complete finish. This is another beautiful effort from Anita.Robert Parker Wine Advocate | 92 RPThe 2023 Moulin-à-Vent La Rochelle was very reduced on the nose, although there are black plummy fruit aromas coiled up here. The palate is plush and luxurious. Its acidity counters the richness of the 2023 acts more like a 2022! Kirsch and blood orange notes arise toward the finish as it gradually fans out. This is an intense Gamay that requires a couple of years in bottle.Vinous Media | 91 VM

Delicate and floral in the glass, the 2023 Rosé Château de Selle Cru Classé wafts up with a captivating blend of freshly sliced nectarines, minty herbs, peach sorbet and wet stone. This is seamlessly silky and serene, focused on purity, with ripe orchard fruits and candied lime motivated by a core of tantalizing acidity. It’s potent and long, with a spicy flourish of ginger and citrus while leaving a sweet herbal tinge that lingers on and on. The 2023 Sancerre “l ’Authentique” from Domaine Thomas-Labaille is a beautiful, classic example and augurs very well for other bottlings from this next vintage in the pipeline. The wine offers up a superb bouquet of gooseberry, lime, fresh-cut grass, an excellent base of limestone minerality, citrus blossoms and a topnote of orange peel. On the palate the wine is bright fullbodied, complex and nicely balanced, with a fine core of ripe fruit, superb soil transparency and grip, bright acids, lovely focus and bounce and a long, complex and vibrant finish. There is good Chablis typicity present in the form of iodine, seashore and petrol along with citrus zest top notes. The delicious, vibrant and precise middle weight flavors flash good minerality on the clean, dry and saline-inflected finish. This is very good for its level and worth considering.Burghound | 89-91 BHThe 2023 Chablis Village was assembled for my visit by Didier Picq from 10 vats. It has an attractive if light bouquet with apple blossom and fresh pear aromas. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, a little creaminess towards the finish. Fresh pale yellow, immediate energy on the nose, this keeps growing in the glass, with good tension, even a little pleasing bitterness at the finish. Very promising. Drink from 2026-2030. Beautiful nose of pear, tangerine, minerals, spices and anise. The palate is dense, supple, and focused blending salty minerality with sweet citrus and orchard fruit flavors. Derived from over 60-year-old vines growing in very shallow soil, with limestone bedrock close to the surface, Patrick Piuze’s 2023 Chablis 1er Cru Séchet is one of the highlights of the broad 28-bottle tasting across many different climats and appellations. Opening in the glass to reveal a bouquet of oyster shell, green apple and lemon zest mingling with beeswax and iodine, it’s medium-bodied, bright and precise, with mouthwatering acidity and ample structuring extract, concluding with a searingly chalky finish. If one wants to pick a bottle that’s unmistakably (even when tasted blind) Chablisien, look no further than this beautifully defined and incisive interpretation of Séchet.Robert Parker Wine Advocate | 94+ RPThe 2023 Chablis “les Séchets” from Domaine Piuze is also a fine example of the vintage. The wine’s aromatic constellation delivers scents of apple, pear, lemon blossoms, a lovely base of limestone soils, beeswax and a nice touch of Chablisienne straw in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and nicely structured out of the blocks this year, with a fine core offruit, excellent mineral undertow and grip, bright acids and a long, complex and very well balanced finish.
