France Wines

Words fail us when trying to adequately portray France’s place in the world of wine. It’s downright impossible to imagine what wine would feel and taste like had it not been for France’s many, many viticultural pioneers. Fine wine is the blood of France’s vigorously beating heart, and it finds itself in many aspects of French culture. With a viticultural history that dates all the way back to the 6th century BC, France now enjoys its position as the most famous and reputable wine region on the planet. If you have a burning passion for masterfully crafted, mouth-watering, mind-expanding wines, then regular visits to France are probably already in your schedule, and for a good reason.

2019 chateau du moulin-a-vent moulin-a-vent France Red

A selection of fruit from the three best parcels of the estate, this wine shows great ripeness, solid tannins and impressive berry fruits. It is developing into a fine wine that needs more aging. Drink from 2024.Wine Enthusiast | 93 WEThe sunniest year since 1990 (1,784 hours versus an average of 1,459). Millerandage evident and there was no substantial rain before the end of July, leading to the lowest yields in Beaujolais for 19 years. August was cooler with much needed rain. Harvest began on 11th September, yields 25hl/ha. Shorter period (17 vs 22 days) and gentler extraction in the winery. A little paler in the glass than some with the effect of whole-bunch adding more crunch and spice. Hints of smoke on the nose. Very appealing now, with a fine balance between fruit ripeness and crisp acidity. Lively freshness to finish. Drinking Window: 2023 - 2032Decanter | 92 DECCrushed-stone minerality on top of fresh red berries and herbs. Soft and medium-bodied with refined tannins. Ethereal and drinkable style with lots of elegance. Tasted in a vertical lineup of ten vintages in Hong Kong. 2019 Domaine Antonin Guyon Volnay 1er Cru Clos Des Chenes

This is a powerfully ripe yet bristling, balanced wine full of sultry black-cherry and cassis flavors. Sourced from a vineyard located near the top of the Volnay slope, it’s a weighty Pinot Noir accented by hints of smoke, sweet spice and graphite. While still firm in tannin, the wine is approachable young and will likely improve through 2030 at least.Wine Enthusiast | 95 WEA discreetly perfumed nose reluctantly offers up its cool and pure aromas of spiced plum, black raspberry and pretty floral nuances, especially violet. There is even better size, weight and mid-palate density to the more mineral-inflected flavors that culminate in a youthfully austere and relatively powerful finish. This needs to develop more depth but that should occur if allowed sufficient time in bottle. This is well-worth checking out provided you intend to cellar it for at least 7 to 8 years first.Burghound | 91-93 BHFrom a parcel at the northern border of the climat, touching Taillepieds, comes the 2019 Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Chênes, a medium to full-bodied, velvety and concentrated wine evocative of sweet red berries, spices, raw cocoa and forest floor. Built around bright acids and velvety tannins, it’s a fine effort.Robert Parker Wine Advocate | 92 RPA slightly lighter, less forced purple, and very much so on the nose. Class and even elegance from the outset. This is pure and poised, with a strong backbone but it has much more precision and enough natural acidity. Fine persistence too. Tasted: May 2021.Jasper Morris | 92 JM
