Meursault Wine

If you fancy yourself a white wine lover, you owe it to yourself to pay a visit to Meursault, in Côte de Beaune. The landscape alone will almost create notes of traditional French folk songs in your mind, as you breathe in all that life force. The sun-bathed slopes of Meursault produce some of France’s finest whites, with a heavy (typically 100%) Chardonnay representation. These wines are incredibly refreshing and go with any dish you can think of, making them a favorite at large meals and gatherings, especially if you’re looking to deal with hot weather somehow.

One sampling dispels all doubts you may have had about the quality of these precious whites, as their deep, even misty appearance reflects in your eyes and you dive into the drink, its texture caressing you gently while your palate is immersed in intense flavor. The strong presence of oak bestows a buttery feel to the liquid, with delicious flavors of vanilla, coconut, butter, and dill making their presence joyfully obvious. The wine flows like milk and honey out of the bottle, and very few people can resist its siren call.

If you aren’t one of those people, you may wish to collect and store these wines for as long as possible, adding to your precious collection while also having an ace up your sleeve should guests arrive. The creamy, buttery flavors make for an excellent surprise if your friends are used to more acidic, fruity bottles you’ve shared in the past. Follow us as we showcase some of Meursault’s most ground-breaking accomplishments, and hear the sirens echoing over splashing waves of intense flavor.

2022 Xavier Monnot Meursault Les Chevalieres

Aromas and flavors of white flowers, citronella and hazelnut cream abound, backed by lively acidity. Lip-smacking and fresh, this white persists on the toasty, smoky finish. Drink now through 2028. 1,606 cases made, 150 cases imported.Wine Spectator | 93 WSFresh pale lemon. The bouquet is about elegance and finesse rather than weight. Fresh fruit on the palate, citrus and apple, white fruit behind, balanced and very long. Very Chevalières in style, even if unlike the Meursaults of yesteryear. All good, because this a substantial cuvee of 50+ barrels. Drink from 2026-2032. Tasted: December 2023.Jasper Morris | 91 JMThe 2022 Meursault Les Chevalières is matured in 25% new oak 350-liter barrels in order to reduce the wood impact. It is taut and focused on the nose, quite understated at first, with touches of almond and hazelnut. The palate is well-balanced, with impressive concentration on the entry. Quite spicy on the mid-palate with tangy marmalade and ginger, this fans out in a pleasing fashion towards the finish.Vinous Media | 90-92 VM
