While the concept doesn’t have a legal definition, it is used to describe blends whose components aren’t disclosed by the producer. In many cases, the wine tends to be a Bordeaux-inspired blend, but this isn’t always the case.

The NV (2020) Extra Brut Les Vignes de Vrigny is laced with crushed flowers, chalk, mint, spice and dried citrus peel. Aromatic, light on its feet and energetic, the 2020 is all about understatement, delineation and class. The long, vibrant finish is beautifully rendered. Pretty floral and saline notes linger. Dosage is 1 gram per liter. Disgorged: July 2024.Vinous Media | 92 VMIssuing from four parcels planted with Pinot Meunier in 1970 and vinified entirely in tank, Egly’s latest release of the NV Les Vignes de Vrigny is based on the 2020 vintage and incorporates 50% reserve wines (from 2019 and 2018). Offering up an expressive bouquet of pear, rye bread and red cherry, it is medium- to full-bodied, fleshy and fruit-forward, with ripe but racy acidity and an expansive finish.
