This is a full-bodied Brunello that ends with rich flavors and some bitter oak. Cool-toned and pliant, it washes across the palate with ripe wild berry fruits underscored by salty minerals tones and brisk acids. This leaves a staining of primary concentration and dusty tannins, as a hint of salted licorice slowly fades. I revisited the 2018 over the course of three days and it only gained in depth and concentration over time without losing its fresh persona. Forget this in the cellar to reap its full rewards.Vinous Media | 92 VMThe expressive perfume of the 2018 Brunello Di Montalcino includes layers of Mediterranean herbs, black cherry candy, leather, and iron-rich earth. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, with generous, ripe black raspberry fruit, lavender, and forest floor. The 2020 Chianti Classico Riserva Rancia shows beautiful minerality with dusty notes of crushed limestone or flint. This is the wine’s special signature, and it shines through in a warm vintage such as this. Rancia also offers an upfront quality of red and purple fruit tones. The 2020 vintage displays pretty concentration and richness with wild cherry and plum, but ultimately the wine leaves you with that elegant mineral sendoff.
