2019 Massolino Barolo Margheria

The 2019 Barolo Margheria is a classic Serralunga Barolo. Deep, savory and wonderfully complex, the Margheria offers up a compelling mix of red/purplish fruit, sage, menthol, licorice, dried flowers, graphite and melted road tar. Muscular tannins wrap it all together. The 2019 is seriously impressive.Vinous Media | 96 VMAromas of camphor, new leather and rose form the nose along with whiffs of forest berry. Showing intensity and elegance, the full-bodied, focused palate features juicy raspberry, black cherry, baking spice and licorice supported by firm, refined tannins. It’s still young but well balanced, with bright acidity. Drink 2029–2049. Abv: 14.5% Kerin O’Keefe | 96 KOThe delicate aromas and flavors of rose, strawberry and cherry are backed by a layer of dense tannins, with iron, tobacco and eucalyptus notes adding depth as this cruises to a long, expansive finish. Impressive now, this should only improve with age. Best from 2027 through 2048. 625 cases made.Wine Spectator | 95 WS

2019 Massolino Barolo Parafada

With fruit from 60- to 65-year-old vines in Serralunga d’Alba, the Massolino 2019 Barolo Parafada is vibrant and bright with very pretty aromas of wild cherry, blue flower, iron ore and rusty nail. The wine displays very pretty intensity but remains balanced all the while. There is a lot of precision and definition in this well-structured Nebbiolo. Be patient with this wine. Some 6,000 bottles will be released this fall.Robert Parker Wine Advocate | 97+ RPThe 2019 Barolo Parafada is a wine of tremendous inner strength, as if all of its energy is focused inwards. Dark cherry, smoke, leather, gravel, scorched earth and licorice slowly come alive in the glass. Dense, potent and muscular, the 2019 offers tons of textural intensity and brooding, virile power. It is fascinating to taste next to the Margheria, which is a bit more aromatic and nuanced, while the Parafada is all muscle. This is one of the best editions I can remember tasting.Vinous Media | 96 VMWonderful aromas of violets, red roses, raspberries and orange peel follow through to a medium to full body, with chewy tannins and a fresh and vivid finish. Needs time to soften. Best after 2028.James Suckling | 95 JSThe initially shy nose opens to reveal aromas of underbrush, camphor, leather and a hint of dog rose. On the full-bodied, austere palate, a backbone of firm, close-grained tannins supports black cherry, crushed raspberry and licorice before finishing on notes of blood orange and tobacco. Drink 2029–2044. Abv: 14% Kerin O’Keefe | 94 KO

2019 Massolino Barolo Parussi

The 2019 Barolo Parussi is Massolino’s sole Barolo from Castiglione Falletto. A wine of total grace and refinement, the 2019 is pure seduction. Freshly cut flowers, mint, sweet red berry fruit, orange peel and rose petal soar out of the glass. Readers will find an elegant, sublime Barolo that hits all the right notes. Don’t miss it.Vinous Media | 97 VMThe Massolino 2019 Barolo Parussi (with 9,000 bottles made) has dark fruit and savory spice that make for a very firm and compact wine. This is an upfront and quite muscular expression with fruit from one of the northernmost sites in Castiglione Falletto. There is some firmness to the tannins that will require more aging time. This wine is set to hit the market in the fall of 2023.Robert Parker Wine Advocate | 95 RPBalsamic aromas of camphor align with earthy scents of tilled soil, new leather and dog rose on this full-bodied red. It’s firm, concentrated and savory, delivering ripe black raspberry, juicy Marasca cherry, baking spice and tobacco set against tightly woven, velvety tannins that envelope the rich flavors. Drink 2029 -2049. Abv: 14.5% Kerin O’Keefe | 95 KOVery pretty with pure and fresh fruit and focused tannins. Medium- to full-bodied with ultra-fine tannins and a bright and vivid finish. Shows tension and brightness. Flowers and sliced strawberries at the end. Drink after 2026.James Suckling | 93 JSFully focused on restrained root aromas such as rhubarb and liquorice, wrapped up in sweet violet, rose. red currants and pomegranate, this 2019 is quite austere, with good concentration of blood orange on the finish, yet thick, dusty and austere tannins. It will evolve with its sternness. The wine ages for 30 months in large Slavonian oak.Decanter | 93 DEC
