Molitor’s 2018 Riesling Saarburger Rausch Auslese *** (Green Capsule) is concentrated, fresh and coolish as well as stony on the lemon-scented nose. Rich and powerful yet refined and elegant on the palate, this is a highly concentrated, dense and textured Rausch Auslese with crystalline, mineral acidity that gives a linear course. This mouth-filling Auslese is rich and generous but tightly structured, and the finish has enormous length and stimulating salinity. The 2018 is far too young for the next 10 years, but if you prefer to drink it young, I recommend opening the bottle five to six days before you serve it. Otherwise, waiting for 10-20 years would be the much better option. Tasted twice at the domain in September 2020.Robert Parker Wine Advocate | 99 RP
The 2019 Bernkasteler Badstube Spätlese (Green Capsule) is another fascinating bright and floral, slate-driven Riesling. Lush and round, with vibrantly fresh and filigreed mineral acidity, this is a perfectly concentrated, tight and juicy, stimulatingly salty, piquant and grippy Badstube that already drinks very well but will calm down its hot blood a bit over the next few years in the bottle. Iodine, sustainable aftertaste. Tasted in May 2021.Robert Parker Wine Advocate | 94 RP
The lime-green-golden 2019 Bernkasteler Lay Auslese ** (White Capsule) is deep, intense and concentrated yet elegant and still precise and flinty on the nose. The attack on the palate is stunningly young and vital before the elegant and crystalline wine reveals its complexity and inner power. This is a tightly structured, very digestible and still edgy Auslese that needs another 5-6 years or so to settle and shine. This 2019 is enormously salty on the finish and highly promising. Bottled in September last year and tasted in May 2021.Robert Parker Wine Advocate | 95+ RP
The 2019 Ürziger Würzgarten Spätlese (White Capsule) already shows on the nose its perfect ripeness and elegant richness in a highly refined and enormously flinty, even tannic manner. The palate is very elegant, lush and ripe yet most of all vibrantly fresh and salty-piquant, revealing a salivating, firmly structured and tannic finish. This is a Würzgarten to keep for at least 3-4 years before opening. Tasted in May 2021.Robert Parker Wine Advocate | 93+ RP
Fermented in a 300-liter Stockinger foudre, the 2019 Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Auslese ** (White Capsule) is another stunner of the vintage from Markus Molitor. Fine, crushed slate notes combined with the pure perfume of perfectly ripe yet refined and elegant tropical fruits and lemons appear on the complex yet highly refined nose. The full-bodied, intense and powerful palate reveals very rich, round and concentrated fruit with an almost oily texture structured by firm yet fine and lingering salinity and minerality as well as fine tannin grip. The 2019 might appear unfinished in the beginning right now, but with enough aeration, it will develop extremely well, yet only slowly. Even after I tasted the opened wine again after seven days, it was still in the process of developing. Considering the price, this is a sleeper of the vintage, and I’d seriously put it back for 20-30 years. Tasted from AP 43 20 in May 2021.Robert Parker Wine Advocate | 95+ RP
From Hohen-Sülzen in Rheinhessen, Battenfeld’s 2020 Kirchenstück Riesling GG is pure and elegant on the nose that shows ripe and intense fruit along with great complexity in a rather "Burgundian" style. Amusingly, the wine seems open and reductive at the same time. Salty, vital and tensioned on the palate, this is a juicy, elegant and persistently salty Kirchenstück with a pure and salty but sustainable finish. Outstanding and surely the finest Kirchenstück I have ever tasted from HO Spanier! Tasted in Wiesbaden at the end of August 2021.Robert Parker Wine Advocate | 95+ RPThis super-elegant GG is hard to resist right now, due to the fine, peachy fruity, plus the delicate notes of citrus zest and white flowers. So sleek and polished on the palate, in spite of the considerable concentration. Such a light touch at the refined, salty finish. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.James Suckling | 95 JS
Very cool and reserved at the front, but this is an enormously deep and complex wine that has staggering mineral intensity. The lime and oolong-tea freshness effortlessly swallows up the unfermented grape sweetness, as if it didn’t really exist. Some will criticize, saying that this is too radical, but that’s what creates the great excitement! The herbal freshness at the finish is really astounding. Drinkable now, but best from 2023.James Suckling | 99 JSThe 2020 Riesling Spätlese Grünlack is precise and fine on the bright and delicately fruity and flinty nose that shows white peach aromas along with some flinty notes of crushed stones. Very elegant and crystalline on the palate, this is a stimulating Spätlese with great precision and finesse. The finish is stimulatingly salty and piquant. Excellent already today. 8% alcohol. Tasted at Schloss Gobelsburg in July 2021.Robert Parker Wine Advocate | 93 RP
From an extremely effortful vintage, Busch’s 2020 Marienburg GG is pure, very intense and mineral on the simply spectacular deep, precise and terroir-driven nose. I had this wine in a blind tasting of 100 top 2020 Rieslings some days before, and it was one of my absolute favorites, and here it is shining again. The wine is enormously salty and complex, tightly woven but never too powerful or rich. It’s simply pure Riesling from a great terroir, and I adore the filigreed structure and intensity...Robert Parker Wine Advocate | 95+ RPThe complex fresh-herb character is underlined by white-fruit and lemon-curd notes. Discreet succulence and plenty of lemony freshness on the medium-bodied palate give this dry Mosel riesling a level of balance that should delight fans of these wines. Serious structure at the slightly austere, savory finish. From the Marienburg-Treppchen section of this site. From biodynamically grown grapes with Respekt certification. Drink or hold.James Suckling | 94 JS
