Bottled a little earlier than usual, the 2022 Viré-Clessé Quintaine, which I tasted last year, has held on to that slightly flinty, smoky nose that is surprisingly neutral in style. The palate is smooth and slightly viscous in texture, quite rich in style with an almost levroutée-like finish that manages to retain freshness. Serve this slightly chilled and you’ll have a winning Viré-Clessé.Vinous Media | 91 VMNot in bottle, which was due to happen in June. In stainless steel on fine lees. More marl in the soil here. Franck calls it a terre amoureuse which gives more flesh and more minerality. The colour is a similar glowing primrose yellow, though with a tighter nose and a bit of spice. This seems less rich on the palate until a sudden burst of decadent spicy fruit at the finish. Slightly drier at the end. The analysis indicates 14.25% alcohol with 2.5g residual sugar.
