1995 grand mayne Bordeaux Red

The 1995 Grand Mayne has a much better bouquet compared to the bottles of the Eighties with vibrant scents of red cherries, dark chocolate and light minty aromas. This could be classed as the first of the modern-day vintages. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, grainy in texture with cedar-infused red fruit laced with mint. It just dips a little early at the finish but otherwise this 1995 continues to give pleasure. Tasted at the Grand Mayne vertical at the property.Vinous Media | 91 VMAn unqualified sleeper of the vintage, the opaque purple-colored 1995 Grand-Mayne displays a sweet, creamy, black raspberry-scented nose with subtle notes of smoky, toasty oak. Both powerful and elegant, this wine exhibits layers of richness, nicely integrated acidity and tannin, and an impressive full-bodied, long finish. This offering should be drinkable early, and keep for over a decade. Anticipated maturity: 2000-2013.Robert Parker | 90 RPIn-your-face aromas of toasted oak, ripe berries and chocolate. Full-bodied, with loads of ripe fruit and a long, smoke and berry finish. Absolutely moreish. Best from 2002 through 2006. —Wine Spectator | 90 WS

2016 grand mayne Bordeaux Red

Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Grand Mayne features fragrant kirsch, redcurrant jelly and black plums scents with touches of garrigue, mossy bark and Sichuan pepper. Full-bodied, rich and densely laden with vibrant red and black fruits, it has a plush frame and very long, earth-laced finish.Robert Parker Wine Advocate | 94 RPThe 2016 Grand-Mayne has a refined, complex bouquet of intense red berry fruit, briar and undergrowth aromas plus wonderfully integrated oak. The palate is ripe on the entry with plush tannins, and perhaps a little more forward than its peers, yet there is plenty of charm on the lightly spiced, tertiary finish. This is Saint-Émilion with pedigree. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.Vinous Media | 93+ VMThe 2016 Château Grand Mayne is a beauty and could turn into a real superstar with 3-4 years of bottle age. This deep ruby-colored effort gives up lots of currant and cassis fruits as well as subtle new oak in its violet and mineral-driven aromas and flavors. Medium to full-bodied, beautifully concentrated, with fine tannins and impeccable balance, it’s seriously impressive. Give it a few years and it should keep for two decades or more.Jeb Dunnuck | 93+ JD91–93. Barrel Sample. This is a rich and balanced wine. It has generous tannins and ripe black fruits, nothing in excess. Spice and fine acidity in the aftertaste show the wine has a good medium-term future.Wine Enthusiast | 92 WESolid density of fruit and velvety tannins to this one. Medium to full body, chewy tannins and a fresh finish.James Suckling | 91-92 JSA restrained style, with gently mulled plum, raspberry and black cherry fruit flavors that pick up well-detailed black tea and incense accents on the finish. A light mineral edge pierces and lifts the finish a bit, adding length. Best from 2021 through 2030. 3,137 cases made.Wine Spectator | 90 WS

2018 grand mayne Bordeaux Red

The 2018 Grand Mayne keeps everything under wraps on the nose, at least for the first 60 minutes, then it blossoms to offer gorgeous pure blackberry, briary, crushed stone and light rose petal aromas. The new oak is beautifully integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins, superb acidity, gentle grip and an almost symmetrical finish of laser-like precision. An outstanding Grand Mayne, certainly one of the finest in recent years.Vinous Media | 94 VMVibrant and fruity nose of blackberries, currants, cherries, violets, licorice and pine needles. Full-bodied with firm, broad tannins. Plenty of concentration and ripe dark fruit with a floral undertone. Try in 2023.James Suckling | 93 JSA rich, perfumed wine, this has ripe black-fruit and vanilla flavors. Dense tannins from both from the wood and the fruit add spice and smokiness to this full wine. The firmness needs to soften into the fruit, so wait to drink until 2026. Wine Enthusiast | 93 WEMedium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2018 Grand Mayne sashays out of the glass with flashy, upfront notes of preserved plums, stewed black cherries and blackberry pie, plus hints of eucalyptus, wild sage, lavender and cloves. The full-bodied palate is seductively fruity with a sturdy frame of chewy tannins and just enough freshness, finishing with a spicy kick.Robert Parker Wine Advocate | 92 RPThe 2018 Château Grand Mayne is terrific and has a masculine, age-worthy style. A deep ruby hue is followed by a medium to full-bodied, nicely concentrated Saint-Emilion with notable chalky minerality, loads of sumptuous blackberry fruits, notes of chocolate and leafy herbs, firm, present, yet ripe tannins, and a great finish. It shows a more backward, reserved side to the vintage, yet I love its purity of fruit, its balance, and its overall class. Hide bottles for 4-5 years, and it should keep for two decades. (Drink between 2025-2045)Jeb Dunnuck | 92+ JDPowerful, confident, liquorice and black cherry, this is a big-shouldered wine as it was en primeur. It’s not yet softening to fully release the tight fruits, but this has a ton of promise. (Drink between 2026-2042)Decanter | 92 DEC

2019 grand mayne Bordeaux Red

The 2019 Grand Mayne has a beautifully defined, pure bouquet of black cherry, blueberry, crushed violet and mineral aromas. The harmonious palate is medium-bodied with fine definition, crisp acidity and touches of dark chocolate toward the finish, which displays both power and elegance. This is a superb Grand Mayne courtesy of Jean-Antoine Nony.Vinous Media | 95 VMThe 2019 Château Grand Mayne showed brilliantly. Very much in the more elegant, classic style of the vintage, it’s medium to full-bodied and straight and focused on the palate, yet brings plenty of mid-palate depth as well as ripe, polished tannins. Black cherries, new leather, dried herbs, and Asian spice notes all define the bouquet, and this is going to benefit from 3-5 years of bottle age and keep for two decades.Jeb Dunnuck | 94 JDIntense and full of character on the nose. Excellent energy here - the fruit is bright and upfront though gets a little overwhelmed by the supple tannins that come in almost straight away. You can feel the liquorice and dark chocolate edges to the black fruit which give the overall frame texture and depth and it has freshness throughout. Just needs time to soften. Drinking Window: 2024 - 2038Decanter | 92 DECThis estate’s proprietor, Jean-Antoine Nony, is a passionate wine lover with a fine palate, so when he asked me to revisit the 2019 Grand Mayne, I was happy to oblige his request. Offering up notions of sweet black fruits and blueberry preserve framed by a generous application of creamy, spicy new oak, the wine is full-bodied, rich and textural, with a lavish core of ripe fruit, impressively lively acids and a long, vanillin-laden finish where powdery tannins assert themselves much more gently than was the case six months ago. While it is indeed somewhat less extracted than I had perceived, it remains somewhat jammy and creamy, and even if it’s a well-made effort in this style, I can’t help but think that the site could deliver more.Robert Parker Wine Advocate | 91 RP
