Just 4.8 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon are planted on this 18.21-hectare estate, situated on the steep, southeast-facing slopes of Glass Mountain in St. Helena. Purchased in 1999, the property is also home to Jayson Woodbridge’s striking underground Ring winery and caves. I awarded the 2021 vintage a perfect 100 points, and this 2022 Ark continues that legacy—it’s the most polished of Woodbridge’s single-vineyard Hundred Acre wines from the vintage. If Morgan’s Way is supreme elegance and Few and Far Between is deep, brooding, and muscular, then Ark sits perfectly in between—balanced and impressively saturated. The palate bursts with red-berry fruit, beautifully scented with brown baking spices, black tea, walnut, and a striking ironstone minerality. “This is superpower wine,” Woodbridge asserts as we taste. “This is a Corporate Hostile Takeover—you go in with this wine. If you’re working on the biggest buyout in history, you drink this just before you short the S&P 500… and then you go skiing in Switzerland. The texture leaves me breathless and speechless. Incredible length and depth. Hard not to drink now.James Suckling | 100 JSRipe black cherries, cassis, black olive, salted meats, and smoky tobacco all shine in the 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Ark, which is aged 32 months in 100% new French oak. It’s full-bodied, has a pure, layered, graceful mouthfeel, shows classic Hundred Acre polished tannins, and delivers a great finish. It’s up with the crème de la crème of the vintage, and while it’s beautiful today, it will shine for at least two decades. A mix of Dundee Hills and Eola-Amity, Latch Key Vineyard in the Dundee Hills is at a lower elevation, and then Koosah is a higher elevation site. It’s a barrel selection with such great stony lemon minerality. Aged sur lie for 11 months—only 15% new oak. Jackson does more leaf removal for Chardonnay than he did; he finds more texture in the skins, which makes a linear and lithe Chardonnay with wildflower aromas, crushed stone and apricot skin. Partial malo allows him to get more freshness, and he uses thicker staves to get the reduction he wants without going to stainless.Decanter Magazine | 94 DEC

In 2022, the estate will only be producing a small quantity of the single-vineyard Riservas, with the majority of fruit going into the 2022 Barbaresco. It pours a jeweled ruby red color and reveals a seductive yet very pure nose of cherry cordial, crushed roses, sweet herbs, and peppery spice. Medium-bodied, it has supple ripeness in the fruit yet wonderful clarity in its tannins and acidity, giving the wine excellent definition and balance. Roughly 133,333 bottles were produced. Surprisingly fresh and juicy for the hot, extremely dry vintage, it boasts flavors of tart red cherry, orange zest and star anise alongside taut, refined tannins that leave some grip on the finish. Drink through 2030. Abv: 14.5% Kerin O’Keefe | 94 KOThe 2022 Barbaresco is a pretty rich, heady wine. Dark cherry/plum fruit, cloves, licorice and mocha build as the 2022 shows off its considerable depth. This is one of the few 2022s that is quite resonant texturally. The aromatics could be more lifted and the tannins could use a bit more polish, but those qualities were next to impossible to come by in 2022. The inclusion of some juice from Riserva lots is a great help. For many years now I have felt that Alex Moreau produces the very finest example of Chassagne-Montrachet villages in the entire commune and his 2022 is once again, an outstanding bottle of wine. The bouquet is deep, precise and complex, wafting from the glass in a refined blend of apple, pear, a touch of almond, a beautiful base of chalky soil tones, vanillin oak and a topnote of orange blossoms. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied, focused and complex, with a beautiful core of fruit, excellent soil signature and grip, a fine spine of acidity and a long, well balanced and youthful finish. Like many of the best 2022 white Burgundies, this wine is already quite tasty, but it will be an even better drink if given three or four years’ worth of bottle age to allow it to fully blossom. The palate delivers its usual resounding success, a mass of pure white fruit which builds in intensity to the back and finishes with the lightest of toasty notes which is complementary. The 2022 Brut Nature Chemin de Rois is a blend of 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay, vinified and aged in barrel. Rich and sumptuous in the glass, the 2022 is seriously impressive right out of the gate. All the elements are so well balanced. The purity of the fruit, the definition, the balance—everything is so profoundly beautiful. This sensational Champagne puts Vincent Cuillier on the map. I can’t recommend it highly enough. This delightful wine is among the liveliest of the vintage from village-level Meursault. They boast a bright lemon peel and nectarine fruit with hints of white flowers, smoke, and an undercurrent of salty minerality. The texture is clean and fresh, with the acidity carrying the wine to a lingering finish. The grapes are from the older vines in the lieu-dit Perchots, just north of En La Barre. The palate is medium-bodied with a succulent opening. Again, overtly fruit-driven with a sorbet-fresh finish. Maybe it needs a little more finesse and Pinoté to develop in barrel? The 2022 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 1er Cru has a very impressive bouquet with wonderful marine-inflected malic scents, quite strict and focused, leaning more to traditional old school Chablis. The palate is very well balanced with a sapid entry, linear and strict with a twist of sour lemon on the finish. Excellent.Vinous Media | 93 VMCool and restrained, not showing a lot at the moment, but has a fine balance between fruit ripeness and a fine thread of acidity. Precise, this will need time. Samuel Billaud has one plot in Chapelot and one in Montée de Tonnerre.Decanter Magazine | 93 DECFresh mid lemon. Very classy on the nose, with the extra fruit-driven intensity. A brilliant core with the extra fruit from this sunny site making it more accessible. A tropical take on grapefruit promotes a lovely aftertaste Drink from 2027-2036. Tasted Jun 2024.Jasper Morris | 93 JMAn elegant, pure and beautifully airy nose presents ripe but wonderfully fresh aromas of mineral reduction, acacia blossom and oyster shell trimmed in enough wood to merit mentioning. The racy and borderline painfully intense middleweight flavors exude a bracing minerality that adds a sense of lift to the detailed, focused and lingering finale that is neither especially dry nor austere. Other than a trace of backend warmth, this is a classic MdT though one that could use better depth, so a few years of patience will be necessary.Burghound | 92 BH

A standout this year is the 2022 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Chênes, a medium to full-bodied, satiny and seamless wine evocative of pear, fresh mint, white flowers and hazelnuts. Pale colour, just a little more oak, a slightly sappy green note to it. Tense and dense, but as yet rather ungiving. This bottling includes the younger Haute Densité planting, as well as the old vines from 1946 and 1970. Overall half is at normal spacing and half at double. The marly soil here remains cool, and does not keep the water. Very stylish in bouquet, ripe yet with precision. A greener touch behind with crystalline acidity. Drink from 2027-2034. It has a crisp, well-defined nose with petrichor and oyster shell scents, the latter becoming stronger with aeration. The palate is well balanced and mineral-driven, with that oyster shell element defining the finish. This is excellent.Vinous Media | 91 VMThe 2022 Puligny-Montrachet Les Tremblots includes the young vines from Lamy’s high density plantings (at 20,000 vines per hectare) to the tune of some 50%. Offering up a gently reductive bouquet of pear, bread dough and white flowers, it’s medium-bodied, taut and electric out of the gates.Robert Parker Wine Advocate | 90+ RPA cooler and not quite as ripe nose reflects notes of green apple, spice, acacia blossom and lemon confit. There is good vibrancy to the noticeably finer medium weight flavors that exhibit excellent length on the bone-dry and youthfully austere finale. This is already complex though it’s sufficiently tightly wound to need at least a few years of patience.Burghound | 90 BH

The 2022 Chassagne-Montrachet La Boudriotte 1er Cru has a crisp and precise bouquet, very focused with seamlessly integrated oak, crushed limestone and petrichor scents percolating through the yellow fruit. The palate is very well-balanced, with a slightly honeyed opening. It’s one of the richer cuvées by taste, though analytically, it has very good acidity and 13% alcohol. Fans out wonderfully on the finish. Excellent.Vinous Media | 93 VMAn expressive nose freely offers up its array of various white orchard fruit, petrol and rosemary oil scents. Here too there is good volume to the medium-bodied and fleshy flavors that also coat the palate with dry extract on the clean, dry and lingering finish. Including all of the estate’s Rocche dell’Annunziata fruit in this vintage, the 2022 Barolo Del Comune Di La Morra was tasted from two bottles, one opened the day prior and one freshly opened. Both showed beautifully, offering notes of framboise, pressed flowers, and juicy mandarin orange. Medium-bodied, it resonates on the palate with refreshing acidity, bright fruit, and elegant fresh earth, finishing long and harmonious. A stunning wine with tremendous balance, it should offer a wide window of enjoyment over the coming 15 or more years. 36,000 bottles were produced. Drink 2026-2042.Jeb Dunnuck | 96 JDA restrained style, showing subtle red currants, slightly confected strawberries and sweet violets, quite contemporary and not too spicy. Medium-bodied with ripe, velvety tannins, crisp acidity and a crunchy palate. Elegant and easy to drink yet a bit lacking in depth. Drink now.James Suckling | 94 JSAromas of iris, violet, fine tobacco blend and sun-warmed hay form the nose on the Trediberri 2022 Barolo del Comune di La Morra along with a whiff of leather. On the savory, already accessible and almost ethereal palate, velvety tannins accompany fleshy Morello cherry, nutmeg, star anise and rhubarb. Tangy acidity keeps it lifted. This is the only Barolo the estate made and is a fine effort for the extremely dry, challenging vintage. Drink 2027–2034Abv: 13.5% Kerin O’Keefe | 94 KOThe Oberto family bottled one single Barolo in 2022. It largely features their vineyards in the cool, late-ripening Berri sub-district. Holdings in Rocche dell’Annunziata represent approximately 18% of the blend. A quiet charmer, this boasts precision and purity as its strengths. Scents of cranberry, redcurrant, pepper and brushwood take some coaxing. The palate is tightly knit and slender but well-endowed with flavours of juicy red berries and cardamom. Lively acidity meets al dente tannins. Do not take this for a pushover.Decanter Magazine | 93 DEC

Powerful and refined at the same time, it’s an age-worthy wine that’s already tempting to drink. Generous apple, white peach and lime aromas give way to stony, flinty and tight flavors backed by nervy acidity that will need time to unravel. One of the truly great sites for chardonnay in the Cote d’Or, and this comes from 50-year-old vines. A deeper lemon yellow. Plenty of tension on the nose, with a breadth of apple fruit. A slight reductive quality before the oak takes over. A little youthful bitterness. I don’t find it showing at its best today but I suspect that there is more to this to emerge later. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted Nov 2023.Jasper Morris | 92-96 JMThis is the first wine to display any appreciable reduction and in this case, it dominates the underlying fruit. More interesting are the generously proportioned larger-scaled flavors that brim with both dry extract and minerality while displaying impressive power on the compact, long, balanced and built-to-age finale. While this could be enjoyed on the younger side thanks to the excellent richness, there is so much upside development potential that it would be a shame to drink it too young.Burghound | 91-94 BH

A new wine in this range, the 2022 Brut Nature Blanc de Noirs Fusion is a blend of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Meunier. Rich, ample and layered in the glass, the 2022 is so impressive. Dried pear, crushed flowers, spice, ginger and dried herbs all build as the 2022 gradually unfurls in the glass. Readers will find a Champagne of real breadth and texture. I loved it. The 2022 Château Cheval Blanc is based on 53% Merlot, 46% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon, brought up all in new oak, and this is the second year where no Petite Cheval was produced. (2015 was the last.) Its deep purple color is followed by a riveting Cheval Blanc that has fabulous aromatics of blackcurrants, spice, flowers, spicy wood, and white truffle. These carry to a medium to full-bodied, remarkably pure, elegant, seamless 2022 that has a layered, rounded mouthfeel, absolutely riveting purity, velvety tannins, and a great finish. It brings to mind a more refined, elegant version of the 2010 and is every bit its equal. Hitting 14% alcohol with a healthy pH of 3.83, it warrants a solid decade of bottle age and will have 40-50+ years of overall prime drinking.Jeb Dunnuck | 100 JDThere was no Petit Cheval in this vintage, the majority of the crop going into Cheval Blanc, taking 78% of the harvest, while 22% was sold as bulk wine (which was almost all press wine which is never included in the blend at Cheval Blanc) and there was not sufficient volume to create a Petit Cheval. A groundbreaking harvest here, beginning August 29th, the first time the Cheval Blanc harvest has begun before the arrival of September. The blend is 53% Merlot, 46% Cabernet Franc and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the élevage was shorter than usual, amounting to just 13 months, in 100% new 225-litre oak barrels. It was bottled in May, a couple of months ahead of schedule. This is just glorious on the nose, expressive but with fabulous perfume, with dense raspberry and red cherry fruits, with rosehips, vanilla and toast, pure and just leaping from the glass. The palate is beautifully composed, just so elegant and precise, with toasted summer berries, wrapped in pencil shavings and a touch of coffee bean, but the most significant finding here is one of beautifully coherent and elegant harmony, the wine filled with defined Cabernet energy, beneath which there is a fresh and peppery core of tannins. I see not a single hair out of place;overall this is a stunning Cheval Blanc, I think probably the most convincing and energetic young vintage I can recall tasting, and it is one you should leave in your cellar for a very long time before broaching. Perfection. Tasted twice. The alcohol on the label is 14%.The Wine Independent | 100 TWIDeep garnet-purple colored, the 2022 Cheval Blanc needs a lot of shaking to wake up scents of fresh plums, blackberries, and violets, leading to hints of cedar chest, pencil lead, and forest floor. The medium-bodied palate is so, so elegant and refined, with soft, silt-like tannins and seamless freshness supporting the mineral-laced black fruit layers, finishing long and perfumed. There’s cut and drive too, even though this is dense and slow-moving, with alder smoke, Turkish coffee and bittersweet cocoa checking in. Just the right amount of dryness and structure on the finish maintains freshness and leaves you wanting more. Astonishing purity and youthful freshness, the white-peach, Asian-pear and candied Amalfi-lemon aromas incredibly vivid. Super-focused, medium-bodied palate with staggering vitality and energy. This is very concentrated, but the refreshing acidity makes it feel so light on its feet. Then comes the diamond-bright minerality at the finish. Surely the best white wine from this producer to date! Made from vines planted in 2005. Coastal terroirs, when planted with high-quality grape material, offer a renewed expression of Chile’s potential for high-end whites—this wine is a remarkable example.Vinous Media | 97 VMThe 2022 Las Pizarras Chardonnay is enticingly pure and vibrant on the nose, exuding a pleasing combination of bright, floral and crushed stone aromas with incredible clarity. The palate is a livewire of energy, with a radiant, beaming presence and outstanding, chiseled precision. It concludes on a long, layered and stoney finish accented with bright citrus notes and impressive length. This grew ever more nuanced and multidimensional in the glass, gaining substantial textural breadth but never losing sight of its crystalline purity and focused core. This was 100% barrel fermented, underwent partial malolactic fermentation and aged 12 months in 20% new French barrique.Robert Parker Wine Advocate | 96 RPPoured from magnum, this Chardonnay is showing so well, showcasing its own identity as well as sense of place. Iodine salinity gives it depth, persistence and loads of character. The mid-palate, full of yellow apple, ripe pear and preserved lemon, is weighty and creamy, with a nutty edge adding it a meaty fleshiness. But the salinity is the start here, coming back on the finish with energy and seductiveness, lingering on the long tail of kelp and nori.Decanter Magazine | 95 DEC

The aromas of dark cherries, bark, pine and orange peel come through clearly. The palate is medium- to full-bodied with firm and velvety tannins and a firm and savory finish. I like the freshness as well as the depth of fruit. Drinkable now, but better after 2028.James Suckling | 95 JSFrom the San Donato in Poggio subzone, the Marchesi Antinori 2022 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Badia a Passignano is a well-balanced wine with good continuity between bouquet and palate. That space is occupied by plush fruit flavors, fine tannins and fresh acidity. The goal is to achieve more red fruit flavors, and the growing season was slightly longer this vintage, thus making that task easier to achieve. This is 100% Sangiovese that shows genuine varietal character.Robert Parker Wine Advocate | 94 RPThe 2022 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Badia a Passignano is dark, pliant and super-expressive. Black cherry, plum, leather, spice and mocha fill out the wine’s broad shoulders nicely. As always, the Badia is defined by its volume, but these days, there is much less oak impact in terms of flavor and tannin profile. Two thousand twenty-two was not the easiest vintage to rein back intensity, but this is a terrific effort just the same. The 2023 was aged mostly in 3HL casks, with some barrique.Vinous Media | 94 VMThe layered nose opens earthy and savory, then turns sweet with fresh blackberries and black cherries, before finishing with a hint of heat and spice. Figs and more black cherries ripen on the palate, but that peppery heat continues to make itself known, and the initial cool earthiness holds true as a foundation. Wine Enthusiast | 94 WEA linear, dense red, whose strawberry and cherry flavors are delineated by vivid acidity and embraced by vanilla and oak spice notes. Builds to the lingering aftertaste, where the red fruit and oak accents linger beside dusty tannins. Shows fine potential; this just needs time. Best from 2027 through 2042. 10,761 cases made, 1,000 cases imported.Wine Spectator | 93 WSFrom vineyards surrounding the centuries-old Benedictine abbey in the district of San Donato in Poggio, this is Antinori’s staple Gran Selezione with 120,000 bottles produced. The 2022 offers plenty of early appeal. Scents of mocha, liquorice and candied violets entice. Cheerful in fruit, it recalls dark cherry purée and raspberry coulis. Subtle stony minerals surface on the mid-palate, and soft, supple tannins embrace while wood nuances seduce. Seems a bit naive at the moment but could show greater complexity with time.Decanter Magazine | 92 DEC
