2019 luca chardonnay Argentina White
2019 Luca Chardonnay Argentina White

A delicious, creamy white with lemon-rind, dried-apple and pear character. Medium to full body, with energetic acidity and a polished finish. Drink or hold.James Suckling | 94 JSThe 2019 G Lot Chardonnay was produced with grapes from a plot in the Adrianna vineyard that was planted in Gualtallary in 1992 at almost 1,500 meters above sea level. This fermented in 500-liter oak barrels, 25% of them new, where it matured for one year. It has a classical nose of barrel-fermented Chardonnay, with spicy, smoky and toasty notes from the barrels combined with white fruit and flowers. The palate is sharp and austere, combining freshness and structure, creamy oak and chalky minerality. 30,000 bottles were filled in February 2020.Robert Parker Wine Advocate | 93 RPGrapes from Gualtallary handled elegantly: 30% aged for 12 months in new French oak while the rest sat in used barrels. Golden yellow in the glass, the 2019 Chardonnay Luca delivers a nose of vanilla, hazelnuts, corn and ginger with juicy hints of fresh pear. Both smooth and fleshy, the freshness brings a chalkiness to the flavors underlined by the smoke in the very lengthy finish. A Californian style wine.Vinous Media | 92 VMBig and rich, with a luscious allure to the ripe apple and creamy baked pear flavors filled with concentrated spice and pastry accents. Savory hints on the firm and well-structured finish. Drink now through 2024. 800 cases made, 800 cases imported.Wine Spectator | 90 WSA smooth mix of melon, tropical fruit, vanilla and woody aromas open this high-elevation, mostly barrel-fermented Chardonnay that’s balanced yet a touch creamy in feel. Light oak, buttered white-bread toast and subtle white-fruit flavors are short on a plump finish. Wine Enthusiast | 90 WE

2022 Vina Cobos Cocodrilo Corte

The 2022 Cocodrilo Corte is a blend driven by its 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, followed by 22% Cabernet Franc, 5% Malbec, and 1% Syrah, the latter from a cool spot with stony soils. The grapes are fermented and pressed separately and aged 14 months in 15% new French oak barrels, with the rest in second- and third-year barrels. With a strong herbal character, it shines in notes of pencil shavings, tobacco, and dried herb. The redcurrant, black cherry, and plum give the wine a juicy underbelly supported by integrated tannin, while the Syrah adds an undeniable hint of white pepper. This is great wine at a great price with the potential to age 10-12 years.Jeb Dunnuck | 93 JDThis almost-Bordeaux-style blend includes 72% cabernet sauvignon, 21% cabernet franc, 5% malbec and 2% syrah. It offers deep, dark black cherries, blueberries, umami and subtle savory notes on a mouth-filling, moderately tannic texture. Great structure comes with a lively through-line of acidity. It’s hearty and sophisticated at the same time. Drink or hold.James Suckling | 93 JSA medium-bodied red, with a graphite and cigar box underpinning to the generous core of plum and cassis, which lengthens around fresh acidity, adding notes of dried sage and anise on the long finish around precise tannins. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Syrah. Drink now through 2036. 15,200 cases made, 3,000 cases imported.Wine Spectator | 92 WSThe 2022 Cocodrilo Corte is composed of fruit from Luján de Cuyo and Uco Valley and aged for 15 months in 40% new French oak. It opens with a harmonious nose of red and black fruits with accents of dried herbs, tobacco and coffee beans, followed by a supple, polished texture and a fresh, pleasantly drying finish. It’s a blend of 72% Cabernet, 22% Cabernet Franc, 5% Malbec and 1% Syrah.Robert Parker Wine Advocate | 90 RPThis is a flavorful red, with an intense nose of black pepper and green bell pepper. The palate bursts with toasted oak spices, followed by a core of black cherries. It has soft but firm tannins and smoky notes, making it a perfect pairing for Argentinian BBQ or grilled steaks.
