Pepiere Wines

The region of Loire is something of an underdog when it comes to France’s finest wines. However, estates like Domaine de la Pépière prove that the region cannot be underestimated or overlooked, with visionaries like Mark Olivier in charge of producing some of the world’s most delicious wines, following strict and traditionalist principles. These wines are intense, elegant, and memorable, with deeply compelling textures and a finish that creates an almost addicting urge to continue drinking. A heavy presence of minerals and acidity makes the wines extremely refreshing, especially if consumed during warm summer evenings – a hit at parties, to be sure. Wines like these are a joy to decipher, as your mind becomes attuned to the subtleties and expressions of terroir within the bottle.

2022 Domaine de la Pepiere Muscadet Sevre et Maine Sur Lie La Pepie

The 2022 Muscadet “la Pépiè” from Domaine de la Pépière is a lovely wine on both the nose and palate. The bouquet is bright and precise, wafting from the glass in a mix of lemon, breadfruit, dried flowers, lovely leesy tones, wet stone minerality and a briny topnote of damp ocean breeze. On the palate the wine is bright, ripe and full-bodied, with a lovely girdle of acidity, superb mineral drive, fine focus and a long, perfectly balanced and complex finish. First class juice. 2023 Domaine de la Pepiere Muscadet Sevre et Maine La Pepie

The Muscadet “la Pépie” from Domaine de la Pépière is the first example from this appellation that I have tasted from the 2023 vintage and fully underscores just how favored Muscadet was in this difficult growing season. The vibrant bouquet hops from the glass in a complex combination of green apple, lime, lovely minerality, briny notes of ocean breeze and a topnote of dried flowers. On the palate the wine is zesty, precise and full-bodied, with an excellent core of fruit, lovely mineral drive and cut, a fine spine of acidity and lovely precision on the long, impeccably balanced and complex finish. This is excellent Muscadet and a stunning value! 2024-2045. 92.John Gilman | 92 JG
