Meursault Wine

If you fancy yourself a white wine lover, you owe it to yourself to pay a visit to Meursault, in Côte de Beaune. The landscape alone will almost create notes of traditional French folk songs in your mind, as you breathe in all that life force. The sun-bathed slopes of Meursault produce some of France’s finest whites, with a heavy (typically 100%) Chardonnay representation. These wines are incredibly refreshing and go with any dish you can think of, making them a favorite at large meals and gatherings, especially if you’re looking to deal with hot weather somehow.

One sampling dispels all doubts you may have had about the quality of these precious whites, as their deep, even misty appearance reflects in your eyes and you dive into the drink, its texture caressing you gently while your palate is immersed in intense flavor. The strong presence of oak bestows a buttery feel to the liquid, with delicious flavors of vanilla, coconut, butter, and dill making their presence joyfully obvious. The wine flows like milk and honey out of the bottle, and very few people can resist its siren call.

If you aren’t one of those people, you may wish to collect and store these wines for as long as possible, adding to your precious collection while also having an ace up your sleeve should guests arrive. The creamy, buttery flavors make for an excellent surprise if your friends are used to more acidic, fruity bottles you’ve shared in the past. Follow us as we showcase some of Meursault’s most ground-breaking accomplishments, and hear the sirens echoing over splashing waves of intense flavor.

2022 henri boillot meursault Burgundy White

All domaine fruit now, from Les Chevalières, Luraule. Pelles, Casses Têtes, Petits Charrons. Pale to medium lemon yellow. A generous bouquet speaking clearly of Meursault. A broad bench of ripe white apple fruit with excellent energy, good acidity behind, and notable persistence. Very Meursault and quite delicious. Drink from 2027-2034. Tasted: December 2023.Jasper Morris | 91-93 JMThe 2022 Meursault is a rich, opulent white. Lemon confit, marzipan, spice and crushed rocks are all amplified. Clean mineral notes extend the finish while also providing a counterpoint to all the textural richness. The Meursault is a blend of parcels (including En Luraule, Petits Charrons, Casse-Têtes, Les Pelles), all estate, high up on the slope. The 25% new oak is nicely judged. - Antonio GalloniVinous Media | 90-92 VM

2022 Domaine Henri Boillot Meursault Premier Cru Clos Richemont Monopole

Deliciously lush, showing ripe apple, quince and spice aromas with a hint of hawthorn. The texture is buttery and rich but not heavy, with plenty of acidity to keep everything in check. The grapes come from 60-year-old vines. Although some plant Pinot here, the elegance and finesse of this wine suggests that either colour can succeed. Wait a few years for this to open up and you will be in for a treat.Decanter | 94 DECThe 2022 Meursault Clos Richemont 1er Cru is a dense, opulent white built on texture more than anything else. It is one of the most overt wines in the Boillot range. Orange jam, spice, vanillin, lemon confit and baked apple tart infuse the 2022 with tons of textural intensity. This is such a distinctive wine. - Antonio GalloniVinous Media | 93-95 VMAn all but imperceptible application of wood can be detected on the more floral-suffused aromas of acacia, lilac and citrus confit nose. The vibrant and super-sleek middleweight flavors possess a sophisticated mouthfeel and excellent concentration before concluding in a stony, bitter lemon-inflected and beautifully persistent finish. This doesn’t have the sheer size and weight of the Goutte d’Or but it is noticeably finer.Burghound | 93 BHMid lemon yellow with a lime streak. The bouquet is sultry. Straight on the rocks – “when you plough, it really makes a noise”. The wine on the palate is much more clean cut yet with significant opulence as well. All in white fruit, quite oaky for the moment but all in harmony. The saline finish keeps the freshness. Drink from 2029-2036. Tasted: December 2023.Jasper Morris | 92-95 JM

2022 Henri Boillot Meursault Premier Cru Les Gouttes d'Or

Cool and airy but ripe aromas are comprised by notes of citrus rind, white flower and plenty of mineral reduction character. There is excellent volume to the mouthcoating and punchy yet refined larger-bodied flavors that possess impressive concentration and power on the clean, dry and well-balanced finish. This is a wine that has excellent development potential yet is not so backward that it couldn’t be enjoyed after only four to five years of keeping. One to consider.Burghound | 93 BHJust bottled. A pretty, light lemon colour. A pleasing fragrance with spring flowers and the lighter side of plum fruit. Generous on the palate with a graphite touch which is probably the oak speaking, a wealth of fruit through the middle and enough flesh to cover the final point of acidity. Fine length as ever.Jasper Morris | 93 JMThe 2022 Meursault Goutte d’Or 1er Cru is airy and delicate in its first impression, but there’s plenty of depth below its lifted, expansive bouquet. Ripe pear, mint, white pepper, baked apple tart and a hint of new oak all grace this wonderfully expressive, nuanced Meursault. Lovely. - Antonio GalloniVinous Media | 91-93 VM
