Riesling Wine

Riesling is a German grape varietal used to produce some of the most heavenly white wine that has ever existed. Riesling wines also come from Alsace, US, Australia, Italy and Austria as well as South Africa and New Zealand. This has to be tasted to be believed, trust us. If you enjoy your white wine on the sweeter side (as many people do), Riesling wines are an essential addition to your wine cellar. Even if you normally prefer dry, non-sweet wines, you might just get converted by this piece of work. The number of flavors and aromas present in just one glass of this godly nectar can make your mouth water – we’ve got a sweet, supple peach in the mixture, some pineapple and lime to add a bit of acidic sharpness, apples and pears for that homey countryside feel, and several other flavors. If your nose is sharp, you will also pick up on some honey, ginger or citrus blossom, all of which contribute to this amazing fruit salad experience. The tempting smell will slowly rise from the glass, even if the drink itself is incredibly cold, so this wine can make a statement even to others around you.

The acidity feels somewhat reminiscent of lemonade, where each sip sends a shivering chill down your spine as you’re almost shocked into a state of excitement and vigor. Riesling has enough longevity to be passed down to your grandkids, and it serves as an excellent entry point for white wines, should your descendants develop an interest in fine wine. The grape changes depending on where it’s grown, so no two regions will ever taste the same. This allows for creative expression and experimentation, helping to keep the spirit of competition going between producers. If you’re interested in an unpredictable, refreshing and jaw-dropping behemoth of a white wine.

2016 trimbach riesling 390eme anniversaire Alsace White

Notes of petrol and pear are focused and intense on the nose. The palate is bright and lemony, with a silky smoothness. A long, puckery finish leaves a tingly sensation, as well as delicious notes of dill, fennel frond and eucalyptus. This wine is a bit of a slow burner and could easily keep aging, but there’s plenty here to enjoy and discover now.Wine Enthusiast | 95 WEVivid straw-green. Rich aromas of soft citrus fruits, honey and minerals. Dense, juicy and tactile on the palate, featuring expressive flavors of apricot, beeswax and spices. This fresh, deep, suave Riesling showcases a lovely fruit intensity and boasts an unctuously sweet personality (only 6 g/L residual sugar but actually sweeter-tasting than that number indicates). Made with the best grapes from Trimbach’s many vineyards (previously, they have made a 350th anniversary wine in 1976, a 375th anniversary wine in 2001 and now this one) including such famous grands crus as the Osterberg and the Schoenenbourg. Drinking Window 2026 - 2035Vinous Media | 94 VMA graceful white that exhibits fragrant petrol, pine and white flowers on the nose, while offering ripe peach and Asian pear fruit flavors finely-meshed with mouthwatering acidity and an underscoring tang of salinity. Harmonious and creamy, with a lasting, spiced finish that echoes the aromatic profile. Drink now through 2036. 833 cases made.Wine Spectator | 93 WSQuite tart and firm. This has enough depth to carry well, and there’s a great burst of candied-citrus character at the long finish. Drink or hold.James Suckling | 90 JS

2016 trimbach riesling frederic emile Alsace White

Luminous straw-yellow. Complex, mint-accented aromas of nectarine, tangerine and powdered stone, plus a hint of licorice. Then bright, juicy and dense, showing outstanding acid-sugar balance and a penetrating juiciness to the stone fruit and herbal flavors. Finishes multilayered and very long, displaying noteworthy clarity and limy cut on the saline finish. Wine lovers everywhere know just how great Frédéric Emile Rieslings can be, but this looks to be a real knockout in the making; I absolutely love this wine’s mineral drive and precision. It pulls off the neat trick of being both very ageworthy and also lovely to drink right now. I was happy to know that my palate was still working after an extremely long day of tasting when I told Pierre that in this vintage of Frédéric Emile I found more of the Geisberg than the Osterberg (in most vintages, the wine is a blend of 60/40 Osterberg-Geisberg, at times even 70/30, but this year it’s more like 55/45).Vinous Media | 97+ VMThe lemon-sherbet note here is really beautiful. Then comes a wealth of herbs, ranging from thyme to parsley, with a touch of sea salt, before turning to more floral nuances, such as cherries and almond blossom. The powerful acidity seems to surround the whole mouth and makes this almost like licking a lemon; the unmistakable dryness is all the more enjoyable because of it. Long and very elegant on the finish. Drink now.James Suckling | 96 JSA benchmark for Alsace Riesling, Cuvée Frédéric Emile is released only as it approaches maturity, and this 2009 is just getting there now. With kerosene aromas and tight, intensely zesty and mineral flavors, it shows the Trimbach approach—that Riesling needs to be bone dry. It’s impressive now, but will be even better from 2016.Wine Enthusiast | 96 WEThe 2016 Riesling Frédéric Emile reveals a clear, bright and slightly flinty bouquet with citrus aromas and delicate intensity. Round and elegant on the palate, this is a powerful, intense and complex cuvée with persistent salinity and remarkable phenolic structure. Although this is a rather crystalline and filigreed Frédéric Emile, it still needs some time to show its best talents. This has 13.2% stated alcohol plus almost two grams per liter of residual sugar. 2018 markus molitor saarburger rausch riesling auslese 3 star (green capsule) German White

Molitor’s 2018 Riesling Saarburger Rausch Auslese *** (Green Capsule) is concentrated, fresh and coolish as well as stony on the lemon-scented nose. Rich and powerful yet refined and elegant on the palate, this is a highly concentrated, dense and textured Rausch Auslese with crystalline, mineral acidity that gives a linear course. This mouth-filling Auslese is rich and generous but tightly structured, and the finish has enormous length and stimulating salinity. The 2018 is far too young for the next 10 years, but if you prefer to drink it young, I recommend opening the bottle five to six days before you serve it. Otherwise, waiting for 10-20 years would be the much better option. Tasted twice at the domain in September 2020.Robert Parker Wine Advocate | 99 RP

Drink now or hold.James Suckling | 95 JSThe 2018 Riesling Herrenletten "VDP. Erste Lage" is clear, deep, pure and fresh on the stony/herbal, rather coolish but intense and even flinty nose of wet stone. Lush and piquant on the palate, this is an elegant and refined, salty Riesling with elegant power, stimulating salinity and good grip. Tasted in Haardt, December 2019.Robert Parker Wine Advocate | 92+ RPThis shows a little bit of oomph, with powerful acidity cutting through the creamy notes of apricot, roasted pineapple and grapefruit. The 2019 Bernkasteler Badstube Spätlese (Green Capsule) is another fascinating bright and floral, slate-driven Riesling. Lush and round, with vibrantly fresh and filigreed mineral acidity, this is a perfectly concentrated, tight and juicy, stimulatingly salty, piquant and grippy Badstube that already drinks very well but will calm down its hot blood a bit over the next few years in the bottle. The attack on the palate is stunningly young and vital before the elegant and crystalline wine reveals its complexity and inner power. 2019 Markus Molitor Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese ** (White Capsule)

Fermented in a 300-liter Stockinger foudre, the 2019 Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Auslese ** (White Capsule) is another stunner of the vintage from Markus Molitor. Fine, crushed slate notes combined with the pure perfume of perfectly ripe yet refined and elegant tropical fruits and lemons appear on the complex yet highly refined nose. The full-bodied, intense and powerful palate reveals very rich, round and concentrated fruit with an almost oily texture structured by firm yet fine and lingering salinity and minerality as well as fine tannin grip. The 2019 might appear unfinished in the beginning right now, but with enough aeration, it will develop extremely well, yet only slowly. Even after I tasted the opened wine again after seven days, it was still in the process of developing. Considering the price, this is a sleeper of the vintage, and I’d seriously put it back for 20-30 years. Tasted from AP 43 20 in May 2021.Robert Parker Wine Advocate | 95+ RP

2019 rippon mature vine riesling New Zealand White

Bracing minerals, sliced pears and apples, wet stones and a gently floral edge here. So pure and fresh. The palate has a succulent, powerfully aligned drive of fresh apple and pear flavors with a mouthwateringly fresh stream of acidity. More citrusy at the finish. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold.James Suckling | 95 JSLighter and livelier than the 2018 (a warmer vintage, which weighed in a full percent higher in finished alcohol by volume), Rippon’s 2019 Mature Vine Riesling strikes a winning balance between fresh green apple, tangy citrus and spring-like florals. It’s medium-bodied (12% alcohol) and almost dry, with great concentration and length. Classically built, it should age well for over a decade.Robert Parker Wine Advocate | 94+ RPLike many wines made by Nick Mills at Rippon, this needs to time to reveal its true character. This is an attractive Riesling with silken texture, but it is a quiet wine that requires exploration. Expect subtle yet stimulating floral aromas, and apple and lemon peel allied with brioche-like notes from time on lees playing a supporting role. New Zealand Riesling can be austere due to its acidity, but Mills has found a happy medium between acidity and sweetness, leaving a dry, clean, balanced finish.Vinous Media | 93 VM

2020 albert boxler riesling grand cru sommerberg dudenstein France White

The 2020 Riesling Grand Cru Sommerberg Dudenstein is another adorable wine from Jean Boxler. From about 70- 80-year-old vines on deeper, marlier soils with a granite layer, the 2020 shows a coolish, clear and refined bouquet of crushed stones, iodine and delicate citrus notes. On the palate, this is a vivacious, even nervous, vibrantly fresh and mineral Sonnenberg with bright and fresh Riesling fruit and a leaner, more vertical structure compared to Vanne and Eckberg. The Dudenstein is less powerful and rich compared to its brothers, but it’s a classic, stimulating and refreshing Riesling with great aging potential. 2020 bests great western riesling Australia White
