Riesling Wine

Riesling is a German grape varietal used to produce some of the most heavenly white wine that has ever existed. Riesling wines also come from Alsace, US, Australia, Italy and Austria as well as South Africa and New Zealand. This has to be tasted to be believed, trust us. If you enjoy your white wine on the sweeter side (as many people do), Riesling wines are an essential addition to your wine cellar. Even if you normally prefer dry, non-sweet wines, you might just get converted by this piece of work. The number of flavors and aromas present in just one glass of this godly nectar can make your mouth water – we’ve got a sweet, supple peach in the mixture, some pineapple and lime to add a bit of acidic sharpness, apples and pears for that homey countryside feel, and several other flavors. If your nose is sharp, you will also pick up on some honey, ginger or citrus blossom, all of which contribute to this amazing fruit salad experience. The tempting smell will slowly rise from the glass, even if the drink itself is incredibly cold, so this wine can make a statement even to others around you.

The acidity feels somewhat reminiscent of lemonade, where each sip sends a shivering chill down your spine as you’re almost shocked into a state of excitement and vigor. Riesling has enough longevity to be passed down to your grandkids, and it serves as an excellent entry point for white wines, should your descendants develop an interest in fine wine. The grape changes depending on where it’s grown, so no two regions will ever taste the same. This allows for creative expression and experimentation, helping to keep the spirit of competition going between producers. If you’re interested in an unpredictable, refreshing and jaw-dropping behemoth of a white wine.

2018 markus molitor saarburger rausch riesling auslese 3 star (green capsule) German White

Molitor’s 2018 Riesling Saarburger Rausch Auslese *** (Green Capsule) is concentrated, fresh and coolish as well as stony on the lemon-scented nose. Rich and powerful yet refined and elegant on the palate, this is a highly concentrated, dense and textured Rausch Auslese with crystalline, mineral acidity that gives a linear course. This mouth-filling Auslese is rich and generous but tightly structured, and the finish has enormous length and stimulating salinity. The 2018 is far too young for the next 10 years, but if you prefer to drink it young, I recommend opening the bottle five to six days before you serve it. Otherwise, waiting for 10-20 years would be the much better option. Tasted twice at the domain in September 2020.Robert Parker Wine Advocate | 99 RP

2019 Markus Molitor Bernkasteler Lay Riesling Auslese ** (White Capsule)

The lime-green-golden 2019 Bernkasteler Lay Auslese ** (White Capsule) is deep, intense and concentrated yet elegant and still precise and flinty on the nose. The attack on the palate is stunningly young and vital before the elegant and crystalline wine reveals its complexity and inner power. This is a tightly structured, very digestible and still edgy Auslese that needs another 5-6 years or so to settle and shine. This 2019 is enormously salty on the finish and highly promising. Bottled in September last year and tasted in May 2021.Robert Parker Wine Advocate | 95+ RP

2019 Markus Molitor Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese ** (White Capsule)

Fermented in a 300-liter Stockinger foudre, the 2019 Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Auslese ** (White Capsule) is another stunner of the vintage from Markus Molitor. Fine, crushed slate notes combined with the pure perfume of perfectly ripe yet refined and elegant tropical fruits and lemons appear on the complex yet highly refined nose. The full-bodied, intense and powerful palate reveals very rich, round and concentrated fruit with an almost oily texture structured by firm yet fine and lingering salinity and minerality as well as fine tannin grip. The 2019 might appear unfinished in the beginning right now, but with enough aeration, it will develop extremely well, yet only slowly. Even after I tasted the opened wine again after seven days, it was still in the process of developing. Considering the price, this is a sleeper of the vintage, and I’d seriously put it back for 20-30 years. Tasted from AP 43 20 in May 2021.Robert Parker Wine Advocate | 95+ RP

2020 battenfeld-spanier kirchenstuck riesling grosses gewachs Germany White

From Hohen-Sülzen in Rheinhessen, Battenfeld’s 2020 Kirchenstück Riesling GG is pure and elegant on the nose that shows ripe and intense fruit along with great complexity in a rather "Burgundian" style. Amusingly, the wine seems open and reductive at the same time. Salty, vital and tensioned on the palate, this is a juicy, elegant and persistently salty Kirchenstück with a pure and salty but sustainable finish. Outstanding and surely the finest Kirchenstück I have ever tasted from HO Spanier! Tasted in Wiesbaden at the end of August 2021.Robert Parker Wine Advocate | 95+ RPThis super-elegant GG is hard to resist right now, due to the fine, peachy fruity, plus the delicate notes of citrus zest and white flowers. So sleek and polished on the palate, in spite of the considerable concentration. Such a light touch at the refined, salty finish. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.James Suckling | 95 JS
