The 2019 Bernkasteler Badstube Spätlese (Green Capsule) is another fascinating bright and floral, slate-driven Riesling. Lush and round, with vibrantly fresh and filigreed mineral acidity, this is a perfectly concentrated, tight and juicy, stimulatingly salty, piquant and grippy Badstube that already drinks very well but will calm down its hot blood a bit over the next few years in the bottle. The lime-green-golden 2019 Bernkasteler Lay Auslese ** (White Capsule) is deep, intense and concentrated yet elegant and still precise and flinty on the nose. The attack on the palate is stunningly young and vital before the elegant and crystalline wine reveals its complexity and inner power. This is a tightly structured, very digestible and still edgy Auslese that needs another 5-6 years or so to settle and shine. This 2019 is enormously salty on the finish and highly promising. The 2019 Ürziger Würzgarten Spätlese (White Capsule) already shows on the nose its perfect ripeness and elegant richness in a highly refined and enormously flinty, even tannic manner. The palate is very elegant, lush and ripe yet most of all vibrantly fresh and salty-piquant, revealing a salivating, firmly structured and tannic finish. This is a Würzgarten to keep for at least 3-4 years before opening. Tasted in May 2021.Robert Parker Wine Advocate | 93+ RP

Fermented in a 300-liter Stockinger foudre, the 2019 Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Auslese ** (White Capsule) is another stunner of the vintage from Markus Molitor. Fine, crushed slate notes combined with the pure perfume of perfectly ripe yet refined and elegant tropical fruits and lemons appear on the complex yet highly refined nose. The full-bodied, intense and powerful palate reveals very rich, round and concentrated fruit with an almost oily texture structured by firm yet fine and lingering salinity and minerality as well as fine tannin grip. The 2019 might appear unfinished in the beginning right now, but with enough aeration, it will develop extremely well, yet only slowly. Even after I tasted the opened wine again after seven days, it was still in the process of developing. Considering the price, this is a sleeper of the vintage, and I’d seriously put it back for 20-30 years. Tasted from AP 43 20 in May 2021.Robert Parker Wine Advocate | 95+ RP

The 2020 Vogelsang Grosse Lage is pure, deep and intense on the spectacularly fine, mineral and absolutely unique nose that reveals concentrated but elegant and spicy-mineral fruit with a coolish and herbal terroir expression. A show-stopping nose! On the palate, this is a medium to full-bodied, dense, rich and intense but also refined and vibrantly fresh Saar Riesling with a tight structure and a spectacularly long, refined and saline finish that reveals a serious tannin structure. The wine reveals great astringency on the finish that indicates tremendous aging potential, the more so since the balance and classicism of this Serrig Riesling is based on about 12 grams of residual sugar. This is a wine made for decades and a new benchmark for dry-tasting Saar Rieslings. 12% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in September 2023.Robert Parker Wine Advocate | 100 RPSuper-cool and youthful for the hot and dry 2020 vintage, with a wide spectrum of aromas from damp moss to pink grapefruit plus notes of fresh thyme and white flowers. Staggering vibrancy on the medium-bodied palate that’s very focused, the concentration of wet stone minerality and lime character climbing precipitously at the very long, tensile finish. From an extremely effortful vintage, Busch’s 2020 Marienburg GG is pure, very intense and mineral on the simply spectacular deep, precise and terroir-driven nose. I had this wine in a blind tasting of 100 top 2020 Rieslings some days before, and it was one of my absolute favorites, and here it is shining again. The wine is enormously salty and complex, tightly woven but never too powerful or rich. Discreet succulence and plenty of lemony freshness on the medium-bodied palate give this dry Mosel riesling a level of balance that should delight fans of these wines.
