Whereas most of the white varieties in the Köfererhof portfolio present lifted and vertical aromas with many flinty mineral nuances, this Sylvaner offers a tad more opulence and fruity richness. Grown high on the south-facing slopes of Monzoccollo this Pinot Bianco is one of the historic wines of Alto Adige. The warm sun gives this wine aromas of ripe apples, baked lemon and honey. While the cool mountain air provides the wine with cool crisp acidity and lifted floral aromas. The palate shows baked pears with honey, a touch of lemon and pressed wildflowers. The 2020 Grüner Veltliner is more savory than sweet with crushed rocks, musky pears, apricots and hints of flint. This is round and soothing, displaying a pleasant inner sweetness and vivid ripe orchard fruits balanced by saline-mineral tones. The 2020 tapers off long and staining, yet also lightly-structured, leaving hints of candied lime. There’s great potential here.Vinous Media | 93 VM
The 2020 Kerner is understated and remarkably pretty with dusty dried flowers, flint and stone that reveal crushed apricot. There’s a purity within that makes the first impression, silky yet focused. A salty flourish up front paves the way for the ripe stone fruits and inner florals that form toward the close. The finish is long and lightly structured, leaving a staining of tart citrus and minerals that linger incredibly long. Wow, the 2020 Kerner is full of tension but also remarkably balanced. The 2020 Sylvaner is wickedly fresh and floral with crushed stone, yellow flowers and pretty young peach forming its bouquet. It’s silky upon entry, yet quickly builds in salty, savory tension with a rich mix of green apple and nectarine.
