Small Run Limited Production Wines

Quality over quantity brought close to the logical extreme. A low-yield approach is already widely considered as the most reliable way to produce high-quality fine wines, so their dedication to viticultural excellence typically proves healthy for their harvests and the structural and aromatic complexity of their blends.

However, the limited production results in a less accessible wine than usual. While some would see that as a tragedy, enthusiastic “wine hunters” see it as a thrilling challenge, an obstacle to overcome as they try to assemble the greatest collection possible. If you like to network with other wine aficionados, you can use these samplings to discern how the wine market will shape up over the coming years, and plan for really good strategic investments.

Here at Sokolin, we do our best to bring the most excellent wines to the forefront and help our customers taste true brilliance. There’s a reason fine wine is often romanticized and spoken about in great tales, and purchasing a few of the finest limited production wines is the easiest way to see (and more importantly, taste) that reason.

1997 petrus Bordeaux Red

This is a forgotten Pétrus. Good dark color, with lovely plum and light raspberry aromas. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and a fresh, fruity finish. A beauty. Fresh and long. Slightly better than when I tasted it a few years back.--Pétrus non-blind vertical. Best after 2005.Wine Spectator | 92 WSThe backward 1997 (2,300 cases produced) needs 3-4 years of cellaring. The dense plum/ruby/purple color is accompanied by a closed bouquet of mocha, dried tomato skin, and black fruits. In the mouth, it is one of the most muscular 1997s, exhibiting outstanding concentration, length, intensity, and depth, copious tannin, and a fine mouth-feel. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2025.Robert Parker | 91 RPDeep red-ruby. Cherry, redcurrant, raspberry, toffee, minerals and iron filings on the nose. Opulent and deep, with a silky, mouthfilling texture and lovely caramel sweetness. Boasts outstanding length for the vintage. Suave and harmonious.Vinous Media | 91-92 VM

The 2019 Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru is performing superbly in bottle, soaring from the glass with scents of cherries, red berries, rose petals, orange peel and exotic spices. Full-bodied, ample and sensual, it's seamless and complete, with a velvety attack that segues into a vibrant core of fruit, concluding with a long, perfumed finish.Robert Parker Wine Advocate | 97 RPBlended from just over 0.7ha of vines scattered throughout the village in the lieux-dits of Porroux, Le Village, Clos Solon and Les Herbuottes, this is potently aromatic. Super-dense and concentrated, with lovely dark fruit and length on the palate, where the texture impresses with firm but silky tannins that extend the length forever. 2021 Domaine Leflaive Puligny Montrachet

An elegant, pure and more floral nose offers up its combination of green apple, prominent citrus and crushed fennel nuances. There is borderline painful intensity to the appealingly textured medium weight flavors that exude a subtle minerality, chiseled, balanced and long finish that is quite dry but not really austere. This is an excellent Puligny villages that is also worth strong consideration.Burghound | 90-93 BHA pale colour with a slight green tint. The nose is more complex than the Bourgogne without suggesting much greater power. Here it is the elegance which counts, fresh white fruit with fines herbes. More lemon than lime in its citrus notes. Medium plus length. Drink from 2025-2028. Jasper Morris | 90-92 JM
