A wine evincing true enlightenment. It’s floral on the nose and also shows blackberries, stones, minerals and cedar. Full-bodied, yet its so fine-grained and tight. So, so long. It builds like a waterfall on the finish. The tannins are powerful yet superbly integrated and harmonious. Needs four to five years in bottle. Drink in 2023.James Suckling | 98 JSThis has lush, fleshy layers of blackberry, fig and black currant confiture rumbling through, pushed by notes of charcoal and warm tobacco leaf. Ganache hints fill in on the finish. Bass-driven, with a serious knot of tannins that have yet to stretch out, but the core of fruit is way too serious to doubt. Best from 2020 through 2035. 2,500 cases made.Wine Spectator | 95 WS(Petrus, Pomerol, Red) Former winemaker Jean-Claude Berrouet likens the growing season to 1978. But 60hl/ha then; 30hl/ha today. Classical and fine with the Merlot providing a Cabernet-like presentation of tannin. Very natural and unforced. Lovely texture and fruit. Persistent finish.Decanter | 95 DECThe wine is a velvet glove in an iron fist. The smooth surface of ripe fruits and rich blackberry flavors, masks the dense tannins that will allow this very great wine to age for many, many years. The acidity and the rich fruit combine with the fine dusty tannins. The wine will surely not be ready to drink before 2027.Wine Enthusiast | 95 WEThe 2014 Petrus was tasted on the same morning as the 2014 Vieux-Château-Certan and though they are built from different blends, their personalities are quite similar. This is a succinct, not powerful, much more refined and discrete bouquet, gradually unfurling and revealing a subtle sea spray/marine element. The palate is again quite discrete at first and unfolds at a glacial pace. It is beautifully balanced with fine tannin, quite linear and structured, gently building towards a finish that has wonderful salinity (continuing that marine theme). Note: I actually returned to taste this several hours later, because it was so closed earlier on and it did finally open, which is atypical for this Pomerol. It is a wonderful Petrus, but one that will deserve bottle age and decanting.Robert Parker Neal Martin | 93 RP-NMThe 2014 Petrus has a bouquet that storms from the glass with exotic red cherries, blood orange, strawberry tart and cedar scents, only calming down after several minutes. Rich and opulent – although they are not facets of a truly great Petrus to me. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet core of candied red fruit, fine structure, a 2014 that is letting it all hang out so soon after bottling, which causes me some concern in terms of what it has left in reserve for long-term ageing and evolution. It just does not deliver a knockout blow on the slightly brittle finish, completing a very good Pomerol but in my opinion, it is not the greatest Petrus in recent years. The purity of fruit is so alluring in this wine. Aromas of crushed berries, lemon rind and flowers follow through to a full body, firm and silky tannins and a long and flavorful finish. All in finesse and texture. So fine and persistent. Try in 2022 but already an inspiration to taste.James Suckling | 97 JSOne of the more backward wines in the vintage, the 2014 Château L’Eglise Clinet is nevertheless packed with potential. A blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc brought up in 70% new barrels, this deep ruby/purple colored beauty boasts vibrant notes of blackcurrants, blueberries, violets, tobacco leaf, and damp earth. With full-bodied richness, bright yet integrated acidity, and fine tannin, it has incredible purity and focus, as well as beautiful richness and depth. Give bottle 4-5 years and enjoy over the following 20-25 years.Jeb Dunnuck | 96+ JDThe 2014 L’Eglise Clinet was tasted from a single bottle but from two glasses, each poured at different times before I arrived for the tasting. They were almost identical on the nose but the one poured later was more compact. It has a very pure bouquet with blackberry, myrtle, a touch of iris and a touch of garrigue (actually reminiscent of fynbos, the wild South African shrubland). The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin, a silver bead of acidity, wonderful precision and beguiling purity. This is an outstanding Pomerol for the vintage from Denis Durantou, sophisticated and classy, yet the bottom line is quintessentially Pomerol. Bravo Denis.Robert Parker Neal Martin | 95 RP-NMThe 2014 l’Eglise-Clinet was picked 25 September and on 4 October for the Merlot, the 6 October for the Cabernet Franc. Against expectations, here it seems more fruit-driven than the 2015 with plenty of wild strawberry and cranberry fruit laced with truffle and light cedar scents. This is quite vivacious and unlike the 2015 appears to show no signs of closing down. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly tough tannin on the entry that will soften with bottle age. There is certainly good matière here with a gentle grip towards the finish that shows great depth and finesse. Maybe this will become a prettier l’Eglise-Clinet compared to the 2015, if not quite possessing the same longevity. Tasted at the l’Eglise-Clinet vertical at the château in April 2018.Vinous Media | 95 VMThis has a big ball of raspberry confiture at the core, with dark licorice and warm fruitcake notes. Hedonistic only to a point, as a serious graphite beam runs throughout, giving this serious drive through the finish. This will keep pace with the top dogs in this vintage. Best from 2020 through 2035. 1,835 cases made.Wine Spectator | 94 WSClassic blend of 90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc. Another fine effort from Denis Durantou. Nose pure and racy with cherry, dark fruit and spice notes. Palate ripe, full and textured with a lovely grain of tannin behind. Fresh and persistent on the finish. That is fantastic on the nose. OMG! Exuberant aromas of lavender, tobacco, cigar box, violets and slice plums. Medium to full body. It just builds on the palate and goes on forever. Speechless. Such finesse and beauty. Just a hint of spices. What a glorious, hyper-classic wine. Coup de foudre!James Suckling | 100 JSA stunning rich purple. The nose is spicy, cedar and black pepper with an obvious Cabernet Franc edge (it makes up 55% of the blend now in bottle). The attack is intense, with black olives, tapenade, raspberry leaf, bristling with intent. There is a juicy tension to the structure that creates a sense of drama. It holds itself back for a moment, and then lets go with a striking clarity of fruit. Right now the conversation is dominated by the Cabernet, but the beauty of Lafleur is that you just have to slowly allow the conversation with the Merlot to open up over time, until the violet-tinged Pomerol heart of the wine takes over. Drinking Window 2024 - 2050.Decanter | 98 DECThe 2014 Lafleur is dark, intense and also wonderfully vivid in the glass. A wine of restraint and total finesse, it will need at least a few years to start coming into its own. Today, it is the wine's persistence and overall harmony that really stand out. There is a level of translucence and energy in the 2014 that is utterly captivating. The blend is 56 % Cabernet Franc and 44 % Merlot, with the Franc super-expressive at this stage. Silky tannins add to the wine's pure appeal. Even at this early stage, the 2014 is brilliant.Antonio Galloni | 95+ AGThe 2014 Lafleur has a lucid hue. The bouquet bides its time, gradually unfolding with scents of raspberry coulis, blackberry, black truffle and just a faint hint of dark chocolate, all beautifully defined and yet you know it is keeping something in reserve. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannin. There is that backbone, which of course you expect with this Pomerol, but also a sense of refinement and poise, a seam of spiciness that develops with time in the glass that prolongs the finish. No, it is not the greatest Lafleur that I have tasted. It's just a really great Pomerol that will give many years of pleasure.Robert Parker Neal Martin | 95 RP-NM
