(Domaine François Lamarche La Grande Rue Grand Cru Red) An elegant mix of upper and medium register aromas centers mostly on the red side of the fruit spectrum along with hints of exotic tea, spice and pretty floral elements along with a hint of menthol. There is lovely detail and underlying tension to the moderately powerful medium-bodied flavors that possess plenty of punch on the dusty and youthfully austere finish that exhibits first-rate length. This beautifully balanced effort is a lovely combination of power and refinement and a wine that will also need extended aging though not as much as the Grands Ech. (Drink starting 2034).Burghound | 93-95 BHThis 1.65ha Lamarche monopole next to La Tâche was planted 40 years ago. Lamarche has destemmed the fruit and gently fermented this with an eye toward restraint, before ageing over two winters in cask (80% new). The result has a seductive, pronounced red and black fruit character on the attack, with notes of liquorice and smoke. The wine has pleasant heft, but there are no rough edges or heaviness and the substantial extract is balanced by good, fresh acidity. Lovely in every respect. Drinking Window 2024 - 2049.Decanter | 95 DECThe 2019 La Grande Rue Grand Cru is aromatically tailored in a similar vein to the domaine’s other Grand Crus: ethereal and floral in style with rose-petal-infused red fruit, the quintessential Pinoté, and hints of crushed rock developing with time. The palate is medium-bodied with lithe tannins, cohesive and poised, gaining weight with aeration toward a very pixelated finish and leaving a ferrous aftertaste. The 2019 Corton Clos-du-Roi Grand Cru offers slightly more red fruit than the other two Cortons from Dubreuil-Fontaine, and smells spicier, with touches of cumin and clove. The palate is medium-bodied with lithe tannins. This has the finest balance and the most elegance of the three Cortons tasted, demonstrating more terroir expression toward the finish, and a prudent sprinkling of white pepper on the aftertaste. Glorious.Vinous Media | 92-94 VM(Domaine Dubreuil-Fontaine Corton-Clos du Roi Grand Cru Red) Exceptionally ripe aromas include those of prune, cassis, warm earth and roasted fruit that seem a bit flat. There is much better freshness and verve on the palate of the mineral-suffused medium weight flavors that are relatively refined thanks to the fine-grained tannins shaping the firm, youthfully austere and beautifully long finish. The nose does not appeal to me though the palate impression is attractive, and the key question is how this will evolve and that is hard to predict. My rating offers the benefit of the doubt that the nose will eventually freshen. (Drink starting 2031)Burghound | 91 BH

The 2019 Rully Clos du Chaigne 1er Cru, a monopole of the domaine on clayey soils, is matured in 60% barrels (less than 20% new) and the remainder in tank. It has a ripe and honeyed bouquet with honeysuckle, tinned apricot and hints of golden raisin. The palate is well balanced with impressive depth, very harmonious with a judicious touch of ginger. This builds nicely in the mouth and it fans out gloriously on the mineral finish. Excellent.Vinous Media | 92 VM(Rully “Clos du Chaigne” 1er Cru Monopole- Domaine de la Folie) The Clos du Chaigne lies on the same slope as the domaine’s Clos St. Jacques, but a bit higher up, so the wine tends to be a bit more minerally in personality as a result. These vines were planted in 1971 and the wine is raised in a combination of about sixty percent tank and forty percent casks, with a small percentage of the barrels being new each year. The 2019 Clos du Chaigne delivers a complex nose of fresh pineapple, pear, chalky minerality, white lilies, just a whisper of buttery oak and a bit of orange zest in the upper register. On the palate the wine is vibrant, ripe and full-bodied, with a fine core, lovely mineral drive and backend bounce and a long, complex finish. This has a touch more cut than the equally impressive Clos St. Jacques this year. (Drink between 2021-2033)John Gilman | 91+ JGScents of Meyer lemon, musky peach, ripe pear, white flowers and nutmeg introduce the 2019 Rully 1er Cru Clos du Chaigne Blanc, a medium to full-bodied, round and fleshy wine that’s gourmand but precise. Fullish yellow. The complex nose shows the power of the vintage, a few drier tannins behind, fair acidity. I find this backward and difficult to judge. I think the Clos character is there, but it is reticent today. The palate does deliver detail and layers of fruit though. The finish does also suggest the necessary class. Ample but not dominant wood doesn’t completely mask the equally exotic white and yellow orchard fruit scents that exhibit enough Chablis typicity to be persuasive. There is once again very impressive volume and mid-palate density to the long, caressing and balanced finale where a refreshing touch of bitter lemon character slowly emerges. This is a powerful Preuses that will require at least a few years to fully integrate the wood treatment and to develop more overall depth.Burghound | 94 BHThe 2019 Chablis Les Preuses Grand Cru has a clean, precise bouquet, quite tight at the moment but displaying focus and admirable delineation. The palate is well balanced with a crisp line of acidity, fresh and vibrant, tapering away a little toward the finish, which offers bright citrus fruit laced with orange peel and truffle but needs a tad more depth and grip.Vinous Media | 91 VMA lean, wiry white, with a touch of oak spice framing apple, lemon and lanolin flavors. A ripe and generous Corton-Charlemagne with a caramelized-pear aroma, but the stony character that’s typical for the site is the dominant aspect of the wine. Serious structure here! It has an understated bouquet of light dandelion and patisserie aromas. The well-balanced palate displays fine delineation and a tang of marmalade toward the finish. This is a nicely composed Corton-Charlemagne, though I wager it will be best consumed within its first decade. Vinous Media | 92-94 VMProminent aromas of mineral reduction and floral elements are laced with hints of wood toast, citrus peel, apple and anise. The sleekly muscular and stony big-bodied flavors are also nicely refined yet powerful while possessing excellent delineation on the youthfully austere finale. This is clearly ripe yet manages to retain the style of a classic CC.Burghound | 92-94 BHFrom a 0.33ha, domaine-owned parcel in Aloxe with an eastern exposition and densely planted 40-year-old vines on thin soils over the limestone bedrock. The fruit is pressed as whole bunches and fermented on native yeasts in cask (one-quarter new) to give a lovely definition of fruit that stretches from green apple to apricot, with hints of smoke, spice, and mineral. The 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Blanc is more mineral laced, with medium to full-bodied aromas and flavors of stone fruits, acacia flowers, tangerine, and honeysuckle. Beautifully textured, concentrated, and the real deal, it’s another incredible white from this estate to enjoy over the coming 10-15 years.Jeb Dunnuck | 95 JDRipe and forward style, with a mix of candied lemon peel, white peach and yellow apple flavors infused liberally with honeysuckle and acacia. Everything bounces along together through the lively finish. Grenache Blanc, Clairette, Roussanne and Bourboulenc. Pear, pineapple and melon notes all make themselves known on the nose, while the medium to full-bodied palate is round and generous, finishing with notes of ripe citrus (tangerine). Mingling aromas of sweet berry fruit and plums with hints of raw cocoa, warm spices and orange rind, the 2019 Corton Grèves Grand Cru (Domaine Louis Jadot) is medium to full-bodied, rich and chalky, with fine concentration and a youthfully tightly wound profile. This is promising, but it will require a bit of patience.Robert Parker Wine Advocate | 92-94 RP(Maison Louis Jadot Corton-Grèves Grand Cru Red) Abundant menthol and wood nuances are present on the ripe aromas of black raspberry and sauvage scents. The dense, plush and less powerful flavors also exude evident minerality on the austere, focused and balanced finish that isn’t quite as complex. Note that this classic Corton is also quite compact and in need of extended cellaring. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, and lightly spiced with white pepper and sage toward the finish, which shows a little more elegance compared to the Clos du Roi this year. The 2019 Echézeaux Grand Cru (Domaine Louis Jadot) is very promising, exhibiting incipiently complex aromas of raspberries, cassis, candied peel, burning embers and potpourri, followed by a medium to full-bodied, charming and vibrant palate that’s broad and enveloping, with lively acids and fine, powdery structuring tannins.Robert Parker Wine Advocate | 93-95 RP(Maison Louis Jadot Echézeaux Grand Cru Red) A much spicier if less earthy nose is more deeply pitched with its aromas of poached plum, exotic tea, black cherry and a whiff of sandalwood. The round, supple and surprisingly forward mid-palate of the medium-bodied flavors contrasts immediately with the very firm, markedly powerful and moderately austere finish. This too is excellent and while it’s not a refined Echézeaux (examples from Les Rouges du Bas rarely are), it is not only imposing but offers fine development potential as well. (Drink starting 2036)Burghound | 92-95 BHThe 2019 Echézeaux Grand Cru has a pleasant bouquet of predominantly red fruit laced with cedar, autumn leaves and Earl Grey, gently unfolding in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and fine balance and poise. There is a slightly grainy texture toward a finish of modest length. This should evolve into a sedate but appealing Echézeaux.Vinous Media | 92-94 VM

The 2019 Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru demonstrates a little more amplitude than the Clos de la Roche because of the one-third stem addition. It is exquisitely defined, offering precise black fruit laced with melted tar and graphite notes, and wonderful focus. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins framing the judiciously spiced black fruit that segues into a very harmonious, grippy finish. This is one of Jadot’s best cuvées this vintage. Vinous Media | 95-97 VMA plethora of spice nuances are present on the emphatically floral-suffused nose of red raspberry, earth and a whiff of exotic tea, all of which is trimmed in wood and menthol nuances. The plump, round and highly seductive flavors possess both good mid-palate density and a very sophisticated mouthfeel that continues onto the relatively powerful and highly persistent finale. The intrinsic class of a fine CSD is very much present and this is seriously impressive. Burghound | 93-96 BHThe 2019 Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru (Domaine Gagey) offers up notes of cherries, red berries, rose petals, raw cocoa, espresso roast and sweet soil tones. Full-bodied, layered and muscular, it’s rich and dramatic, with an enveloping core of fruit and ripe, refined tannins.Robert Parker Wine Advocate | 93-95+ RPFrom vines in the original heart of Clos-St-Denis belonging to the Gagey family, this is produced with 50% whole clusters, producing complex aromatics that range from red and black fruit to hints of mineral, menthol and smoke. The texture is very fine and delicate, with impressive length and great elegance. This drinks well now and should only improve with some time in the bottle. Pops of hazelnut and cream lend richness to this ripe, lusciously textured Chablis. Domaine des Malandes is a 29ha estate with the ’Envers de Valmur’ an intriguing ’insiders’ choice from vineyards abutting Grand Cru Vaudésir. Classic in colour, aroma and flavour profile on the palate, this is a fine Chablis with great potential for further ageing. Bright, focussed and mineral with a lovely balance between freshness, bright acidity and ripe fruit flavours. Long and precise on the finish. Drinking Window 2021 - 2027.Decanter | 94 DECA slight notion of wet chalk appears alongside hints of lemon zest on this wine’s fresh nose. (Domaine Fernand et Laurent Pillot Pommard "Les Charmots" 1er Cru Red) Here too there is plenty of menthol influence though there are more floral characters on the mix of red and blue fruit scents. The relatively refined and seductively textured medium weight flavors exude a lovely salinity on the sneaky long and better-balanced finale. (Drink starting 2029).Burghound | 90-92 BHAromas of sweet berry fruit, woodsmoke, loamy soil and peonies introduce the 2019 Pommard 1er Cru Charmots, a medium-bodied, ample and especially refined rendition of this site, with a bright core of fruit and beautifully powdery tannins.Robert Parker Wine Advocate | 92 RPThe 2019 Pommard Charmots 1er Cru is showing just a little oak on the nose that should be soaked up with bottle age. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy tannins, again, just a little oaky and toasty towards the finish, though the acidity is nicely judged and it possesses quite a persistent pepper aftertaste. The 2019 Laforge has really filled out nicely. Black cherry, plum, chocolate, tobacco, licorice and lavender build beautifully with some aeration. The 2019 is sumptuous, bold and racy, Laforge is an absolute joy to taste today. This flamboyant, racy Saint-Émilion will be a jewel to drink now and over the next few years.Vinous Media | 93 VMThe 2019 Château Laforge is more up-front and charming, with medium-bodied aromas and flavors of savory red and black fruits, leafy herbs, iron, and tobacco. The 2019 Pauillac de Latour has a welcome strictness and focus on the nose, a straight-down-the-line Pauillac with graphite and pencil shavings infusing the black fruit. The oak is neatly integrated. The palate is medium-bodied, fresh and taut, with pliant tannins and fine acidity. A graphite infused finish doesn’t press down too hard on the accelerator. Not over-ambitious - that’s its strength. Difficult to believe this is in fact the third wine! Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting.Vinous Media | 92 VMThe 2019 Le Pauillac De Château Latour shows beautifully and is unquestionably an outstanding Pauillac. Lots of darker currants, cedarwood, tobacco, and smoked herbs define the nose, and this medium-bodied, velvety textured, balanced 2019 should evolve for two decades.Jeb Dunnuck | 91 JDThe 2019 Le Pauillac de Château Latour is another impressive rendition of this bottling from Latour. Offering up notes of sweet berry fruit, plums, spices and pencil shavings, it’s medium to full-bodied, rich and fleshy, with a ripe core of fruit, lively acids and powdery tannins. This year, it includes some declassified lots from Les Forts de Latour. I’m sure it will show even better when it’s released in a few years.Robert Parker Wine Advocate | 90+ RPEvident ripeness to the fruits here, giving pretty high open berry aromatics even at this early stage. This is a frank and gourmet style of Pauillac de Latour and will be an early-to-medium term drinker with excellent potential for getting a taste of one of the few unquestionably good quality 3rd wines of Bordeaux. Made with organically farmed grapes, the Collosorbo 2019 Brunello has inviting aromas of plum, new leather, lavender and Mediterranean scrub. On the concentrated, velvety palate, tightly knit, close-grained tannins envelop black cherry extract, liquor soaked prune, licorice and tobacco before a mocha finish. The 2019 Luigi Einaudi Barbaresco is a little closed at first, but some notes of cherry, chalk and smoke emerge. It is firmly structured with lots of tannins - prominent but not harsh - and a fine, silty texture. The dark cherry fruit is hidden in the dense structure but persists on the finish along with lots of fresh juiciness. It has a quite long and angular "Giacometti" shape to the wine, and a smoky, chalky austerity. It needs another 2-3 years to begin to unravel but it should keep for 20 years plus.The Wine Independent | 94 TWIA very subtle and pretty 2019 Barbaresco with plum and orange peel, as well as floral undertones.
