2003 d’Armailhac: Mouton Rothschild’s Other Wine

Mouton Rothschilds Other WineIn our lives there are times when one opens a bottle of wine and enjoys it and thinks “that was nice.”  Then there are times in which a person may find themselves thinking how incredibly fortunate and lucky they are to try this fermented grape juice.  It may have traveled halfway across the world to get into your possession; it’s a beverage that has surrounded cultures from ancient Romans to modern day Michelin restaurants.  Over the weekend, I had the latter experience.  When I reflect on all of the wine that I’ve experienced, it amazes me!

Last year right around this time, I asked the love of my life to spend hopefully a thousand years of laughter and joy together.  Fortunately for me, she said yes.  We decided to celebrate this great moment by taking a weekend away from everyday life and escape to the far reaches of southern PA to a place called Nemacolin Woodlands.  A beautiful 3,000 acre resort and spa filled with everything one could possibly dream: a zoo, two 18-hole premier golf courses (one of which humbled me), and premier restaurants that rival the greatest in NYC.  They left nothing to be desired.  Even the design of the park benches had a meaning.

To celebrate this occasion, I decided to open up a bottle of back-vintage Bordeaux – 2003 d’Armailhac. It’s been 10 years since the fantastic 2003 vintage, and it’s shaping up to be one of my absolute favorites.   Not to mention, this is Mouton Rothschild’s other wine, but at 1/10th the price.  Talk about pedigree!  I decanted this wine for a few hours and then sat back and enjoyed the earthy tones, currant and a small hint of mint.  While I tend to prefer wines from St. Estephe or St. Julien, this Pauillac is a beauty!  92 points on my books, and certainly, a great wine for many years to come.  What a night, what a weekend, and what a wine!

Amazing back-vintage Bordeaux doesn’t have to be expensive, and we’re happy to bring you this fantastic wine at a low price. You can score this 10-year-old, back-vintage Bordeaux with first-rate pedigree for just $74.95!
