“This is one of the great whites on earth, but of course….it’s Gaja!” - Dave Sokolin
Gaja is widely considered one of the greatest estates in the world, producing coveted and collectible reds, but those “in the know” include this white wine as well, 2022 Gaja Chardonnay Gaia & Rey.
The first Chardonnay planted in Piedmont and the first Italian white wined aged in barriques, Gaia & Rey was named by Angelo Gaja after his first daughter, Gaia, and Grandmother Clotilde Rey.
Produced in the Langhe region of Piedmont, there is universal applaud for this wine. “Gaja Chardonnay competes with top white Burgundies, and why wouldn’t it. You can actually taste the pedigree. I had the pleasure of tasting back vintages at Hotel Pellicano in Tuscany and actually think it ages better than most white Burgundy today. A masterpiece! 97+ points.” - Dave Sokolin
