It is rare to find 2010 Bordeaux of this Pedigree at under $30. The 2010 Teyssier is an outstanding wine that is worth every penny and more.
Teyssier is made by Jonathan Maltus, who is also the maker of the famous cult wine Le Dome. The 2010 Le Dome received a 100 point score from Robert Parker and sells for $240+. You can own a wine from the same vintage and estate for only $27.95.
Maltus has become the winemaker to watch in Bordeaux. Chateau Teyssier is located in Vignonet, St. Emilion and dates back to 18th century. Jonathan and Lyn Maltus purchased the estate in 1994 and since then have improved the quality greatly. They have doubled the size of the estate and modernized it with the addition of stainless steal cask and expanding storage facility for aging. Teyssier is considered his “village wine” because the grapes come from a couple different plots on the estate.
The 2010 Teyssier is a blend of 80 % Merlot and 20% Cab Franc. It is medium bodied with big flavors of dark berries, earth, and a touch of dark chocolate. It has an outstanding long finish that stays with you long after the glass is finished. We tasted this along side an arugula and beet salad topped with toasted honey walnuts and goat cheese crumbles and it was amazing to experience the way the wine complimented all of these flavors. It was equally as enjoyable with the beef tenderloin and pan roasted potatoes that followed so consider it the next time you serve a simpler beef dish. I would even recommend it with a great grilled burger!
“An over-achieving estate for a number of years now, this dense purple wine exhibits oodles of creme de cassis and licorice, hints of subtle barbecue smoke and toast, terrific texture and a long, succulent, fleshy finish...Drink it over the next 10-15 years.." 92 Robert Parker’ Wine Advocate
