One of the best Shiraz that I've ever tasted gives old fashioned wine a new pizazz!
I love everything about the unique philosophy behind the Mollydooker label.
If you're looking for something a little bit outside the stuffy and traditional, look no further than the Sarah and Sparky Marquis's winery in Southern Australia, mate! These 'one of a kind' wine makers bring a whimsical feel to wine drinking that few other properties can provide. First, there's the naming of the wines- "The Boxer', 'Goosebumps', 'The Carnival of Love', and 'Gigglepot', (just to name a few). Just opening a bottle with a name like that makes you wonder must be inside!
I'll tell you what's inside from personal experience. I had some friends over for dinner (pork loin and roasted rosemary potatoes) and we popped (well- we unscrewed!) the 2005 The Boxer Shiraz. From the moment I tasted this luscious, velvety concoction, I was sold on Mollydookers for life. It was succulent and round, with dark ripe red cherry fruit, nicely matched with subtle earthy undertones. It was a perfect bottle for a casual dinner with friends- memorable and affordable!
I'm not the only one who feels this way. The Mollydooker wines continuously clean up with high scores and rave reviews from fans and critics alike. They've received accolades from The Wine Advocate and the Wine Spectator, two of the most respected wine publications in the world! Not to mention winning more awards than I can count within the confines of Australian wine making. They're sure on a roll down there!
Finally, there's possibly the most unique feature of all to the Mollydooker wines- the Mollydooker Shake! You won't find these instructions with your bottles of Bordeaux.
Why Shake?
Sarah & Sparky use Nitrogen in place of sulfites to protect the wines from oxidation in the bottle. (This is great for people who are sensitive to sulfites, which can cause that morning-after headache!) The Mollydooker Shake releases the nitrogen gas and helps the flavor profile to 'fill out'. They say to do "the shake" on the young red wines because it helps the components of the wine to integrate. It's an essential step to enjoying any Mollydooker! So do the Mollydooker Shake!
First, open the screwcap and pour out some of the wine until it's about halfway down the shoulder. Replace the screwcap, turn the bottle up-side-down and give it a shake. Remove the cap again, let it breathe for a moment- replace the cap and repeat the shake!
You'll see a layer of foam along the top of the wine, and once that foam disappears, then you're ready to enjoy!
