Thanksgiving is only a few days away, & dinner party season is ramping up too. Just about every weekend for the next couple of months will be spent with friends and family eating, drinking & celebrating the season. For me, dinner party season kicked off this past weekend. I was invited to a small dinner party with some close friends, & I was very excited to pick some great wine to bring. Since I was going with my girlfriend, I had to pick two nice bottles for this evening. I already had one bottle in mind that I've been dying to try, and that was the 2008 Sassicaia. The 2008 vintage has received great praise from the critics receiving 97 points from James Suckling & 96 points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. I knew it was going to be a bit on the young side, but it's always nice to try wines at different stages in its life cycle, so you can see for yourself how it changes as it ages.

For my next pick, I was racking my brain trying to figure out what else to take, and I stumbled upon the 2nd wine of Sassicaia in my wine fridge. I thought to myself this would be an excellent opportunity to try these wines side by side! The 2008 San Guido Guidalberto is no slouch itself receiving 92 points from
James Suckling & 90 points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate.

Upon arriving to the party, the host, being a wine lover as well, was equally excited to try these two great wines side by side. We decanted both wines & tried to forget about them for an hour or so. FINALLY, after what seemed like years, we headed over to the decanters to see what was in store for us. Listed below are my notes?

2008 San Guido Guidalberto
"The nose was filled with blueberries, new leather and herbs. On the palate was a silky medium to full- bodied wine with gobs of dark fruit. It was offering excellent drinkability & overall was an awesome wine."

2008 Sassicaia
"On the nose, olives, dark fruit and provencal herbs. The first sip was a mind-boggling wine with tons of nuances & complexities. Firm tannins & a muscular back-bone will easily allow this wine to age for 20+ years. It is drinking well, but definitely requires some patience."

Overall, these two beauties lived up to their expectations and should be in everyone's cellar. Considering what these two wines sell for, they both offer a lot without breaking the bank. If you haven't secured any yet, please contact us today.

Being that this was my first dinner party of the season, I can't wait to try some other fantastic wines from our vast inventory. If you need any help with picking wines for your holiday parties, please give me a call at my direct line 631-504-5323, and I'd be more than happy to assist you.

Happy Holidays & dinner party season for that matter!
