CDP Remains a Personal Favorite!

With 20+ years of professional experience in the wine trade and a few more years on top of that of shear wine appreciation the Southern Rhone remains close to my heart and a region I always gravitate towards. Janasse, Telegraph, Pegau, they all have their place but their luxury cuvees tend to be a bit expensive. The “Reine De Bois” from Mordoree comes in at a more modest price point and delivers the same quality as the big boys on the block. With holiday parties in abundance I decided to bring the 2012 Mordoree Reine De Bois to a new friend’s house to compliment some lovely appetizers and good conversation.

The derivation of Domaine de la Mordoree comes from a wild game bird, known as a woodcock, hence the logo on the label. In keeping with that same tradition, their high end luxury cuvee which made its debut in 2003 is called La Reine des Bois, which translates into “Queen of the Woods.” Produced from a blend of Grenache, Mourvedre, Cinsault, Syrah and Vaccarese the vines average 60 years of age from the most prestigious vineyards in all of Chateauneuf du Pape.

We began the evening with some casual apps, as I prefer. Beef tenderloin tips, shrimp wrapped in prosciutto and some decadent cheesy poof things, the name escapes me. The wine was sublime! Super rich, polished and refined tannic structure and a blackberry bouquet that enticed the palate for what was to come. The best part is that other retailers sell this one for no less than $70 and it quickly climbs to $90+ but we have close ties that allow us the offer it at $56.99. A total steal for CDP of this caliber. I urge you to give it a go, especially at this bargain price!
