Three Outstanding Chateauneuf du Papes to Buy

2016 Janasse Chateauneuf du PapeIf you’re a Chateauneuf du Pape lover, the 2016 vintage is one you’re going to want to own, if you don’t already. It’s a brilliant vintage – in fact, the best Chateaunuef du Pape vintage since 2007, and it sets the new standard for what is possible in Chateauneuf du Pape. It’s the 1982 Bordeaux moment of the Rhone.

Wine critic Jeb Dunnuck had this to say: "The 2016s are on another level... this is truly an extraordinary vintage… This is the greatest young vintage from the Southern Rhône Valley I’ve ever tasted, both in terms of quality as well as consistency.”

We’re sharing three of our favorites from the vintage that are high-scoring, with prices from $42.99 - $79.99. You’ll want to snatch up these gems before they’re gone for good! Because of the top quality of this vintage, our quantities are quickly dwindling.

2016 Santa Duc Chateauneuf du Pape Habemus Papam: Established in the 1870s, this estate has a long history, now in its sixth generation. It’s considered to be a benchmark Chateauneuf producer that many admire. With a blend made of 64% Grenache, 25% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre and 1% Cinsault, this wine offers pedigree galore at a price you’ll be excited about! Priced at only $42.99, with a 95 – 97 RP score, this Chateauneuf offers a lot of bang for the buck. It’s definitely one you don’t want to miss!

2016 Janasse Chateauneuf du Pape: Founded in 1976, Janasse flies under the radar, but makes some of the greatest Chateauneuf du Papes on the market. It’s really next level, yet so few people have tried it. Some of its smaller cuvees match anything made on earth. This 95 pointer priced at only $49.95 is a crazy good wine that will leave you wanting to order more!

2016 Vieille Julienne Chateauneuf du Pape les Trois Sources: This estate was founded in 1905, and at that time, its entire production was sold to negociants. This gorgeous 98 pointer comes from one of the most talented winemakers around, Jean-Paul Daumen. He believes in old vines, tiny yields and the vineyards are biodynamically farmed. It’s a top performer of the vintage and should drink well until 2038. Pair this with a great steak, and you’ll have a fantastic tasting experience!

Cheers!
