A 99 Point Right Bank Bordeaux for Only $179

2009 Chateau CanonWe’re excited to bring you this mega Right Bank Bordeaux deal – 2009 Chateau Canon – 99 points for only $179.

Chateau Canon is one of the most reputable producers in Saint Emilion. It’s a tiny, historic chateau that was purchased by the Wertheimer/Chanel group who brought it back to its prior glory, and way beyond! 2009 Canon is one of the great St. Emilions, rated 99 points for only $179 bottle (for an 11-year old Bordeaux).

This 99 pointer is also from the incredible 2009 vintage, one of the top vintages to ever come out of Bordeaux. Wine critic Robert Parker said, "2009 is the greatest vintage I have tasted in Bordeaux since 1982, of which it is a modern-day version, but greatly improved." Parker has retired from rating new vintages of Bordeaux, leaving 2009 as one of the best vintages he's ever tasted.

This 2009 is rated higher than Chateau L’Angelus that sells for $400 bottle, at less than 50% less. It’s actually better!

2009 Chateau Canon vs Chateau Angelus Score Price per Bottle
2009 Chateau Canon 99 JD $179
2009 Chateau Angelus 98+ JD $400+

"The 2009 Chateau Canon is brilliant in every regard and certainly one of the finest wines from this estate I've ever tasted." - Jeb Dunnuck

This wine is drinking well and should continue to do so until 2039.

Cheers!

Three Outstanding Chateauneuf du Papes to Buy

2016 Janasse Chateauneuf du PapeIf you’re a Chateauneuf du Pape lover, the 2016 vintage is one you’re going to want to own, if you don’t already. It’s a brilliant vintage – in fact, the best Chateaunuef du Pape vintage since 2007, and it sets the new standard for what is possible in Chateauneuf du Pape. It’s the 1982 Bordeaux moment of the Rhone.

Wine critic Jeb Dunnuck had this to say: "The 2016s are on another level... this is truly an extraordinary vintage… This is the greatest young vintage from the Southern Rhône Valley I’ve ever tasted, both in terms of quality as well as consistency.”

We’re sharing three of our favorites from the vintage that are high-scoring, with prices from $42.99 - $79.99. You’ll want to snatch up these gems before they’re gone for good! Because of the top quality of this vintage, our quantities are quickly dwindling.

2016 Santa Duc Chateauneuf du Pape Habemus Papam: Established in the 1870s, this estate has a long history, now in its sixth generation. It’s considered to be a benchmark Chateauneuf producer that many admire. With a blend made of 64% Grenache, 25% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre and 1% Cinsault, this wine offers pedigree galore at a price you’ll be excited about! Priced at only $42.99, with a 95 – 97 RP score, this Chateauneuf offers a lot of bang for the buck. It’s definitely one you don’t want to miss!

2016 Janasse Chateauneuf du Pape: Founded in 1976, Janasse flies under the radar, but makes some of the greatest Chateauneuf du Papes on the market. It’s really next level, yet so few people have tried it. Some of its smaller cuvees match anything made on earth. This 95 pointer priced at only $49.95 is a crazy good wine that will leave you wanting to order more!

2016 Vieille Julienne Chateauneuf du Pape les Trois Sources: This estate was founded in 1905, and at that time, its entire production was sold to negociants. This gorgeous 98 pointer comes from one of the most talented winemakers around, Jean-Paul Daumen. He believes in old vines, tiny yields and the vineyards are biodynamically farmed. It’s a top performer of the vintage and should drink well until 2038. Pair this with a great steak, and you’ll have a fantastic tasting experience!

Cheers!

On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, ruminating with ripe dark red fruits, Napa dust, dark chocolate and finely charred oak, closing with a 30+ second finish. If you like Cabernet Sauvignon and Bordeaux blends from Napa Valley, you should buy 2016."

Five Champagnes Dave Sokolin Loves

Dave Sokolin's Five Champagne Favorites"I serve Champagne instead of white wine with many summer meals. It really pairs well with so many foods like fish, corn, salad and even BBQ chicken. Most people don't take advantage of how complementary and fun these are to serve!” – Dave Sokolin

You'll notice that our focus here is on 2008 Champagne, which is an historic vintage that is still available at opening prices. 2008 has become the most sought-after since the epic 1996 vintage, and the demand has been off the charts! Decanter has called 2008 the “Miracle Vintage” for Champagne, awarding it a perfect 5 out of 5 score. The 2008 vintage also received a 98 point score from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate.

We’ve seen so many Champagne fans clamoring for this vintage! These wines are still low priced, and we have great stock at release prices, but they will trade up and sell out. Collectors will put these away and watch them appreciate, but you can just appreciate them now if you like! These Champagnes drink now and will age for decades.

2008 Laurent Perrier Champagne Brut Millesime – The champagne of Laurent-Perrier is made by Michel Fauconnet, chef de cave of Salon, who took over from his predecessor, Alain Terrier, in early 2004. This Champagne has an amazing score (96 WE) at a low price of only $67.95. It offers so much bang for the buck in a top vintage. Don’t fear underpaying for an incredible bottle of vintage Champagne!

2008 Veuve Clicquot– Founded in 1772 by Philippe Cliquot, the Clicquot house is rich in history. After Philippe’s son, Francois, passed away, Francois’ wife, Madame Clicquot took over the vineyard at just 27 years of age. In 1810, Veuve Clicquot produced its first recorded vintage Champagne. Veuve’s bottles are adorned and distinguished by the well-recognized yellow label, first trademarked in 1877. One of the largest and most reputable Champagne houses, Veuve Clicquot’s bubblies are adored by Champagne lovers all over the globe. 2008 was a brilliant vintage for Champagne, and this 98 pointer at $79.95 is one to own.

2008 Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame – We’re in love with this Champagne! “This is the best vintage I’ve tasted of this Champagne, and it’s only $155 / bottle. In its best vintages like 2008, La Grande Dame is one of the great champions of the world and usually beats almost everything.” – Dave Sokolin

2008 Moet Chandon Dom Perignon – Dom Perignon is always a classic! It’s one of the most cherished, sought-after Champagnes in the world. The critics are raving about the 2008 vintage, and the rumors are true. The 2008 vintage may be the best Dom Perignon ever produced! It was rated 98 points by the following four major wine critics – Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media, John Gilman, A View from the Cellar, Jeb Dunnuck and James Suckling. Don’t pass up this opportunity to own a true legend! We have very limited quantities remaining.

2008 Louis Roederer Cristal – We call this the 300 point Cristal (rated 100 points by three prominent wine critics – Jeb Dunnuck, James Suckling and Wine Enthusiast)! It doesn’t get any better than this. “This is the best vintage since 1979, which sells for $1,000+ / bottle versus $269 for this.” – Dave Sokolin.

Cheers!

A Market Busting Price on Antinori's 98+Point Tenuta di Biserno

2016 Tenuta Biserno Super TuscanThis is an opportunity to grab one of the highest scoring super Tuscans of the classic 2016 vintage created by the two legendary brothers from the Antinori dynasty at a market low price of $129 per bottle!

While Piero Antinori was creating and expanding the Super Tuscan concept at their family’s estates with “global” examples of Tignanello, Solaia and Guado Al Tasso, Lodovico Antinori founded one of the most “classic” Super Tuscan estates with icons Ornellaia and Masseto and dedicated 20 years to making Ornellaia one of the most highly regarded wine estates in the world. In 2002, Lodovico Antinori sold Tenuta dell’Ornellaia to Robert Mondavi Winery in order to devote himself completely to his new project, Tenuta di Biserno, the first joint venture between him and his brother, Piero, outside of their family business.

Tenuta di Biserno - their eponymous wine Biserno is a thought-provoking wine and reflects the excellent terroir and micro-climate of the coastal area of the Upper Maremma - only the finest grapes are selected for the blend, resulting in a wine of depth, intensity, complexity, longevity and elegance.

To no surprise, their release from the 2016 vintage is the highest scoring to date from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, Decanter and Wine Enthusiast. Though it “released” at $150 and already trades up to $223, we are able to offer original wood case six-packs from one of Tuscany’s greatest vintages at the lowest price on the market of $129 / bottle.

For fun, the last time one of Ludivoco’s wines “released” that cheap was the 96 point 2001 Ornellaia back in 2005!

More importantly, check out the chart below, and you’ll see that the 98+ point 2016 Biserno outscores Ornellaia, Redigaffi, Trinoro and Guado Al Tasso’s Matarocchio for ½ to ¼ the price!

Quantities are very low on this gem, so act quickly!

2016 Tuscan Reds Score Price per Bottle
2016 Tenuta Biserno "Biserno" 98+ RP $129
2016 Tua Rita Redigaffi 98 RP $240+
2016 Tenuta di Trinoro 98 RP $270+
2016 Ornellaia 98 RP $200+
2016 Guado Al Tasso 'Matarocchio' 97 RP $570+

Cheers!

Three Gorgeous Sauvignon Blancs for Summer

Summer Sauvignon BlancsWe’re soaking up the last weeks of summer with our favorite Sauvignon Blancs! This green-skinned wonder-varietal makes an excellent standalone varietal bottle and is one of the most represented white wine grapes in Bordeaux. Outside of France, you can expect to encounter this varietal in Australia, California, Chile, Italy, New Zealand and Washington.

When the best producers in the world make Sauvignon Blanc, they get mega scores and are so delicious! We’re sharing three 93 - 95 point Sauvignon Blancs from names that you know and love, all from different wine producing regions. They are the best this planet has to offer.

2019 Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough (New Zealand) – New Zealand has some splendid Sauvignon Blancs to offer to the world, and Cloudy Bay is one of the best. “It might not have been the first Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, but it was the one that put the style on the map – and its popularity is still as strong as ever, 35 years on.” – Decanter. Cloudy Bay was established in 1985 in Marlborough, and “at the time, it was almost an unimaginable place to set-up a vineyard. But Cloudy Bay’s founder - David Hohnen - was convinced of its potential to produce great wine and invested in the best land of the region.” (Cloudy Bay Winery). This Sauvignon Blanc never fails to be a summer favorite! Cloudy Bay is one of our go-to Sauvignon Blanc producers year after year, and our customers have come to know and love this wine! The 2019 vintage received a 93 point score and delivers beyond its $27.99 price tag. It’s drinking well now – 2023. Pair this beauty with chicken or your favorite seafood dish.

2015 Ornellaia Bianco (Tuscany) – It’s true! Ornellaia makes one of the great Sauvignon Blancs on the planet! While Ornellaia is known for producing world-renowned red wines, it also produces a gorgeous Sauvignon Blanc that you should not overlook. 2013 was the first vintage of this wine to hit the market and was made of 70% Sauvignon Blanc and 30% Viognier. Fast forward two years, and the 2015 vintage was made of 100% Sauvignon Blanc. A refreshing opener for the summer, this 95 pointer will knock your socks off and will leave you wanting to order more. Totally satisfying and appealing, the pedigree of this wine is unparalleled!

2018 Les Hauts De Smith Blanc (Bordeaux) – from a 100 point Bordeaux producer, comes this gorgeous, 100% Sauvignon Blanc. Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte has over 800 years of history one could try and dig through, but one thing is certain even without any investigative work - their wines are absurdly delicious. This 94 pointer offers pedigree galore at a price you’ll be excited about – only $39.99! Serve this delicious wine with grilled or broiled fish, chicken or a pasta with cream sauce. “Every time I pop a bottle of Bordeaux Blanc for friends, it creates a new fan.” – Dave Sokolin

Cheers!

Cult Alert! A 97 Point 2015 “Pauillac-Like” California Cab That Flirts With Perfection

2015 Capture Cabernet Sauvignon RevelationCalling all California Cabernet lovers! This is a deal you don’t want to miss! Today, we’re featuring the 97 point 2015 Capture Cabernet Sauvignon Revelation, a super limited production Cabernet from northern Sonoma county with only 217 cases made.

Owner and winemaker, Denis Malbec, was actually born at Chateau Latour where his family had worked for the famous Pauillac first growth while growing up. Denis honed his skills as the Cellar Master at Chateau Latour from 1994 – 2000.

In 2000, after a visit to California, he decided to make the move to the US permanent. Malbec was the winemaker for Kapcsandy and Blankiet before launching Capture, which sits 3,000 feet above sea level in the Mayacamas mountains. Sadly, Denis Malbec suddenly passed away in 2016, and the property has been recently sold.

Revelation, with its “Pauillac-like” characteristics, is the signature wine of Capture. With only 217 cases produced, we were able to secure the last 60 cases of this highly-rated, 2015 Cabernet that was not part of the sale to the new owners.

Wine critic Jeb Dunnuck gave this wine a 97 point score and wrote the following glowing review: “A blend of the favorite blocks (14 and 18) of the estate vineyard and 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Revelation is another wine from Sam Teakle that flirts with perfection. Awesome cassis, graphite, crushed rocks, and Pauillac-like lead pencil notes all flow to a full-bodied, deep, sexy Cabernet Sauvignon that has sweet tannin, no hard edges, and a blockbuster finish. As with the Harmonie cuvée, it’s going to keep for 10-15 years or more." - JD

This is a rare opportunity that we are thrilled to pass on to our clients. Act fast as these cases will fly out the door at a price that is 40% off the release price and a fraction of the price of some of the other big California names below.

2015 California Cabernet Sauvignon Score Price per Bottle
2015 Capture Cabernet Saubignon 'Revelation' 97 JD $79.99
2015 Hundred Acre Cabernet Sauvignon Few and Far Between 97 JD $450+
2015 Blankiet Cabernet Sauvignon Mythicus Paradise Hills 97 JD $300+

2015 Teyssier (Bordeaux) – “I love this low-priced Saint Emilion!” – Dave Sokolin. This 92 point, $22.95 wine comes from a famous winemaker, Jonathan Maltus, who created the 100 point 2010 Le Dome. 2015 Teyssier is a very special wine because it gives you a great introduction into the style of a very high end, talented winemaker at a super low price. Maltus is an Englishman who moved to Bordeaux in 1992 and then two years later, bought his first vineyard, Chateau Teyssier. His wines have received international praise, and he was considered to be part of a group of winemakers described as “garagiste” winemakers. Garagistes handcrafted wines that were very small in production - in fact, so small that they could be made in a garage. The 2015 Bordeaux vintage overall is very good to outstanding, and this $22.95 wine offers tremendous quality for the money.

2018 Domaine de Roally Vire Clesse (Burgundy) – this 100% Chardonnay will make your summer more fun! It’s actually the best inexpensive white Burgundy we’ve tasted. Priced at only $23.99, yet it tastes like it costs 2-3x the price. We’ve sold through countless cases of this low-priced gem, and so many of our customers love this refreshing wine. It continues to be one of our go-to white Burgundy values every spring and summer and over-delivers for the price. Plus, it drinks great young – just pop, pour and enjoy!
